High School Students Build A Powered Wheelchair For 2-Year-Old Who Can't Walk

When most people think about teenagers, they usually imagine busy and stressed students that are focused on their own problems but there are many times when this stereotype is proven wrong. Teenagers are much more than self-centered students.

Cillian Jackson, a two-year-old from Minnesota, suffers from a debilitating genetic condition. According to CNN, this condition makes it very hard for Cillian to move his own body. As a result, the easiest movements are hard for the baby.

Unfortunately, his family can't afford the power wheelchair that could make their child's life much easier. According to Kare 11, the family's insurance didn't cover the wheelchair because of Cillian's age.

The state-of-the-art wheelchair would cost Cillian's family over $20,000. His parents weren't able to afford the piece of technology despite their best efforts. After hearing about this tragic story, the robotics team from Farmington High School decided to help.

The team set out to build an electric scooter from scratch for the child. Cillian's dad actually attended Farmington High School in the past. He knew that his alma mater would come to the rescue.

The robotics team used a program called Go Baby Go that was designed to adapt toy cars. The group of high schoolers took a toy car intended for use by toddlers and made some major tweaks. They enhanced the car's controlling system and adjusted the seat to accommodate Cillian's size.

The students at Farmington High School weren't going to let a lack of funds keep a small child from being able to move freely.

They wanted to support a member of their community through their expertise with technology and robotics.

When the car was first revealed to Cillian, he couldn't control his excitement. He was brimming with happiness, and the robotics team couldn't have felt more proud of their work when Cillian paid a visit to the high school and showed off his driving prowess.

This inspiring story has been shared on every social media platform and has even made the headlines at some major news stations around the country.

It's uplifting to see a group of people coming together to drastically improve the life of another person.
