High School Dance Team Sets Up Barbershop And Lit Up Court Proving Reason They’re State Champions

The level of high school competition is extreme in all areas. Whether it's sports, dance, or academia, the end goal is always to be the state winner.

Teams need to be in sync and practice hard to get to the top. This high school drill team from West Covina did a barbershop-themed performance and it won them the CADTD State Dance Championship in 2017.

The team of 13 from West Covina is an all-male ensemble. When you watch them perform it's easy to forget they're only in high school! The routine begins with four barber chairs in the middle of a basketball court.

The group is divided at this point, with members on each side and someone standing by each chair. Their costumes are eye-catching. They are wearing matching pink shirts, sneakers, and red suspenders. They hold their opening pose, ready for the music to start.

As the music begins some of the members transition into the barber chairs. The ones dressed as barbers place white gowns over their 'clients'. The first thing that takes place is the 'haircut'. As soon as that is complete the group start to dance together. They combine, body-popping, breakdancing, and even the splits.

Their dancing is just as inspiring as the story behind the group. According to See It Live, when the West Covina team first got together, their rehearsals took place outside, come rain or shine.

They spent every day together practicing to ensure they could be as flawless as possible – and it paid off! Group member Jando Acosta told STEEZY:

“Through West Co All-Male, I’ve learned to trust other people. To know that there are 23 others that are going through the same thing I am, and that trust me enough to do it with me, makes me trust them, too. When I’m out there, I know I’m not alone.”

We don't doubt that the future holds incredible things for these dancers. Share this motivational story with your friends and family, so they can see that anything is possible.
