The pilot of a commercial airline was surprised by a student choir from Luxembourg. The choir was known as Lycée des Garçons d’Esch-sur-Alzette (LGE). They gave the captain a sweet, impromptu song for his retirement.

The name of the pilot was Captain Ronald Smith. He had worked as a pilot for United Airlines for 32 years as the now-viral video's description read

His last flight would be from Chicago to Brussels. Captain Smith had no idea what was going to happen to him. The student choir LGE learned about the retirement of Captain Smith. They immediately decided to honor the pilot in the only way the knew how; they would sing for him. The plan created by the members of LGE was simple.

They would wait until all the other passengers left the plane. They would then go to their places and wait for Captain smith to come out of the cockpit. When this happened, the students formed a semi-circle around the surprised pilot and started singing.

The choir decided to sing the song from the musical group Coldplay called Viva La Vida. These words literally translate to Long Live Life. The choir members gave an impressive acapella version of the hit song. Each of them was giving it their all.

Other United Airlines employees, as well as flight attendants, were busy taking videos of what was happening. It was obvious from the videos that Captain Smith truly enjoyed the performance of the teenagers.

People who have watched the video commented Captain Smith was experiencing flashbacks of his life as a pilot when the choir was singing.

The happy moments he experienced and all the people he came to know and love like family. Nocolas Elsen uploaded a video of the moment and it went viral. On YouTube, it had 1.8 million views and 57k likes in 2019.

When the choir was done singing, Captain Smith could be described as teary-eyed. He told the choir it was beautiful. Everyone who saw it clapped, United Airlines mentioned on their social media. They were all happy to see Captain Smith was all smiles. He thanked the choir and told them he enjoyed it and felt their singing was amazing.

The captain's daughter commented on the video. She said her father's work was his life and time flies when you love your job. It was a special day for her father but also a bit sad.
