'Hero' Son, 10, Saves Mom From Drowning In Pool After She Suffers A Seizure

The love of a parent knows no bounds. Parents would go to the end of the earth for their children, but one mother, Lori Keeney from Oklahoma had her child go to the end of the earth for her when he saved her. While Keeney and her son Gavin were enjoying a nice morning in their backyard pool, something went terribly wrong. 

When Gavin got out of the pool for a quick second, he quickly realized that his mom wasn’t okay. Hearing splashes, Gavin was a bit away on the porch when he knew something was wrong. He ran to the pool and looked to see his mom drifting to the bottom of the pool. Gavin jumped into the pool to rescue his mom. He was able to lift her up and keep her head above water until safety came. The son carried his mom to the pool ladder while he waited for his grandpa to come and help. 

After saving his mom, he eventually received an award of a lifetime for his heroic act. The Kingston Police Department awarded Gavin for his bravery. Acting on instinct and love, Gavin ultimately saved his mom's life. Keeney said that her son isn’t just the love of her life, but her hero now too. Speaking to Good Morning America, Keeney shared that she does suffer from seizures and epilepsy. Without her son being around, Keeney doesn’t know if she would have survived her seizure in the pool. Gavin admitted that he was scared but that he knew he needed to save his mom. 

The whole traumatic ordeal happened to be captured on the Keeney family's home surveillance system. In the interview with GMA in August of 2022, Keeney said she and her son were enjoying a great morning outside together. She shared that her son had just gotten out of the pool when she went into a seizure. "(Gavin) had just gotten out of the pool and I just went into a seizure," Keeney said. "It scared me more than I've ever been scared," she added. 

When Gavin was on the porch, he knew something was wrong with his mom in the pool. When he ran to check on his mom he realized, she was "sinking in the pool." Even though the heroic son acted on instinct he did admit he was frightened. "I was scared a little bit," the son admitted. But Gavin was able to turn his fear into bravery and that did not go unnoticed. The Oklahoma police department couldn’t help but notice Gavin’s bravery either. After saving his own mom, the Kingston Police Department gave Gavin an award for his brave and heroic acts. 

After the traumatic incident, Keeney shared that Gavin is more than just her son, but her ultimate hero. "He's definitely my hero," the proud mom shared. However, Keeney didn't just stop there. She also went on to say that she believes Gavin is someone looking out for her. "But I really do feel like he's my guardian angel, as well." The mother and son will be closer than ever after saving one’s life.
