Spangler was a salesman who worked with an energy company in Temple, Texas. The date was August 16 when he had gone to that town to work. It was at his job in the neighborhood that he noticed a lot of smoke.
He told FOX8 WGHP in an interview that it sparked his curiosity, and so he went closer. By the time he was at the location, he had realized the fire was spreading fast. It was already reaching a home on the block. This prompted him to act more quickly.

Hunter to the Rescue
After noticing the fast-paced flames were already spreading to the home, Hunter dashed to the house. He wanted to notify the residents of the impending danger. The fire continued to spread quickly. By the time Spangler got closer to the home, the situation had worsened.
"I sprinted the whole way down and threw open their door and told them their house was on fire,” he said.
The home belonged to Gregory Kennedy, who together with his family of six was inside the house unaware of the imminent danger. After notifying the family of the impending blazes, Spangler intervened to help them move out. Additionally, he also helped rescue the family's dogs from the burning house.
Not So Lucky
Despite being saved by Spangler, Kennedy and his family didn't manage to get any valuables from their house; it was already too late. "There's a lot of smoke damage throughout the house. Most of the items are pretty much lost," said Kericha Kennedy. Besides the valuables burned in the house, the family also lost two new vehicles.
The Kennedy's had two cars parked in the garage. "We lost a lot, but we're most thankful for what we still have, which is our life," Kericha Kennedy added. Despite the heroic activity, Spangler doesn't consider himself a hero. "I feel like anybody has the potential to do exactly what I did," Spangler told FOX8. Instead, he believes it was faith that was in play. He said, "I almost didn't take that route that day. I just so happened to look to my left when I was going somewhere else."
Forged Friendship
After saving Kennedy's, Spangler speaks highly of them. He says they talk nearly every day and are more or less of a family now. “We talk pretty much every day, I mean, we’re basically family now. I don't think you can go through something like that that could become fatal and not become friends after that," Spangler said.
For the Kennedy's, they're still waiting to know the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, Spangler has created a GoFundMe campaign to help the family resume everyday life.
Stories like this are worth spreading. What do you think about Spangler's heroic account of saving the Kennedy's? It's undeniably a valuable narrative, and his kind actions are worth spreading. So be sure to help the idea circulate.
