Caroline Maurer decided one day to strap Fox into his stroller and take the two-year-old boy for a short walk. The fateful day was in March of 2018 and Caroline had served as a nanny for Fox and his family since he was four months old.

As Caroline and Fox proceeded with their walk, a car came barreling in their direction. The only thought in Caroline's mind was to make sure Fox remained unharmed. Fox and the stroller were in front of Caroline and in position to take the brunt of the force caused by the collision with the car.

Caroline screamed loudly at the oncoming car and driver while pushing as hard as she could to remove the stroller from the path of the car. Without a second to spare, Caroline placed her own body between the car and young Fox. The impact of the collision crushed her hand and propelled her body in the opposite direction.

Fortunately for Fox, the young boy escaped the encounter with only minor bruises and a few scratches. However, the outcome for Caroline was much more serious. There were serious fractures to the nanny's arms, hands, and wrists. She was most disturbed by the fact her hands were injured too badly to allow her to hold and comfort Fox in the moments following the accident.

The hero nanny was forced to spend two full weeks in the hospital due to her injuries. This time was followed by another two weeks of rehab. Caroline still suffers from bouts of dizziness and her hands have not yet healed to the point that she can take part in the physical therapy she needs. But despite the permanent injuries she suffered, there is a two-year-old boy and a family who will forever be grateful for the act of bravery by Caroline Maurer.
