It is no secret that dogs have an uncanny sense of smell. When that innate ability to sniff out trouble is combined with formal training, dogs become an invaluable tool for law enforcement.

Officer Dustin Brock has been working with Saby for about two years. Saby is a K-9 officer with the Birmingham Police SRT K9 Unit. Recently, Saby proved what a hero he really was.

A 90-year-old Birmingham woman went missing from her home after she wandered off and got lost in the woods.

What was most alarming about the situation is that the woman suffered from dementia, complicating the emergency even more.

Somehow Loudell Hubbard ended up over one mile from her home.

She fell into a creek and was not able to get out of the water. So she used her purse as a pillow and remained in the water. This is when Saby stepped in. The hero dog used his sense of smell to lead officers to Hubbard.

Fortunately, Hubbard suffered no broken bones. Although she was cold and wet after being in the water overnight, she escaped relatively unscathed.

Hubbard's neighbor, Frederick Jones, said that he had always been hopeful that she would be found.

Jones said that joy was the overriding emotion when Hubbard was found. He said that the scripture tells everyone to love thy neighbor and that is what they try to do.

"Everybody was thanking God and just elated. Really brought tears to our eyes that she was ok."

If you have not seen these amazing pictures of Saby, now is your chance. After you have had the chance to check these shots out, be sure to spread them to everyone else that you know. Saby and his skills deserve to be honored!
