When you go through security, your belongings are put in a small plastic tray so that they can be scanned to ensure that you're not taking anything dangerous on the plane. These trays are riddled with germs and bacteria that are then passed along to other people who touch them, including you and your family.

Two of the common viruses detected on the plastic security trays are Influenza A and Rhinovirus, which is the virus responsible for causing the common cold.

A little hand washing, covering a cough, and using the proper cleaning techniques for the equipment can go a long way in cutting back on the viruses that are found on these trays. When you're in an airport, pay attention to your surroundings, lending a hand to help slow the spread of illnesses by washing your hands.
