Here's Who Is And Isn’t On Felicity Huffman's Side

Part of following the epic college admissions bribery story is following which celebrities stand with or against one of the biggest stars involved: actress Felicity Huffman. People have been criticizing her for her illegal tactics to get her daughter into a prestigious college (which she plead guilty to in court on Monday, reported CBS). But perhaps surprisingly, some still stand with her.

One of her “Desperate Housewives” co-stars Joely Fisher said on social media that she doesn’t blame Felicity for paying the $15,000 to a fake charity. That’s because she believes parents will do anything for their kids to have a bright future.

She posted a lengthy social media caption in support of that idea and of her friend Felicity, which has since been taken down, but not before People magazine reported on what she said.

Playwright David Mamet is also a good friend of Huffman and wrote a supportive open letter published in the Hollywood Reporter, part of which read:

“That a parent's zeal for her children's future may have overcome her better judgment for a moment is not only unfortunate, it is, I know we parents would agree, a universal phenomenon.”

But there were several celebrities lining up to naysay Felicity and her shady scheme. Kirstie Alley tweeted what disturbed her most about it:

Actress Olivia Munn took a wider look at the entire scandal, and asked the question of why they even did it:

Jim Carrey even created a brand new artwork as a tribute to the scandal, calling out Felicity by name and admonishing all cheaters in general.

A celebrity who has raised another great point was John Legend to Entertainment Tonight. Like many, he wasn’t necessarily surprised that wealthy people are paying to get their kids into school. He said:

"But the bottom line is, the system has been rigged for wealthy people for a long time. The admissions system rewards people's parents being wealthy and people's parents having gone to a certain school. There's a lot of legal ways to do that that still aren't really that fair to a lot of other people."
