Here Are 7 Things You Should Never Put Up With, When You Are In A Relationship

Oct 29, 2018 by apost team

There are a lot of things that make a relationship great. Unfortunately, there are just as many that can destroy one. Being aware of the habits that offend you in your significant other and adressing those problems, is necessary to have a healthy and happy relationship. Here are 7 things you should never put up with when you are in a relationship.

1. Dominating Behavior

It is important to be aware of the red flags of a controlling person. Maybe they order for you on your first date with no regards to what you really want, or they insist you go to a movie that you say you don’t wish to see. Control freaks often justify their behavior as being “a man,” but they are simply being controlling.

You should always be allowed to say and do what you want, within reason, without your partner telling you it is wrong. Don’t just sit back timidly while your date barks orders to the server. Speak up, or better yet, get out of this relationship.

2. Any Kind Of Abuse

Sure, we often think that we will “never” be the one to be in an abusive situation. However, it isn’t always so black and white. Relationships often start out great, and many people ignore the warning signs of abuse. But please remember- no one deserves to be abused.

If you are currently dealing with any type of physical, mental, or verbal abuse, please do everything in your power to leave. We know that there are cases of abuse where you feel threatened to leave, but if you can trust someone to help you, please do so.

If you happen to be in a causal relationship and do not fear for your life, just walk away now. If someone really loves you, they will not hurt you on purpose or for any reason.

3. Rudeness Or Belittling Attitude

Being rude and cruel to your partner, even in a joking manner, is never okay. Telling someone who asks if they look fat that they look like a cow is just downright mean and unnecessary. It is in poor form and will only cause hurt and pain to your partner.

Your significant other should never try to hurt you or poke fun at your expense. Even just a small insult here or there should not be ignored or passed off as a joke. You should both find the humor in a statement. Remember, there is a major difference between being funny and being ignorant. You should never put up with rudeness.

4. There Is Nothing to Talk About Anymore

You may find yourself sitting in a crowded restaurant, surrounded by laughing kids and happy music. However, you and your partner or date are sitting in complete silence talking about the lack of cheese on your pasta and generally ignoring one another.

When you are in a healthy relationship, the conversation should flow. Sure, silences happen now and again- you can’t be constantly talking to one another. But you should be comfortable enough to talk about anything and not worry about what is going to be talked about next.

Someone who is mature should be relaxed and comfortable with you, not tense and anxious. With all of the things to talk about in the world, make sure you are with someone who is eager to discuss the issues with you.

5. Dishonesty

A white lie now and again is okay for a relationship. When your significant other asks if she is looking heavier and you say no to spare her some hurt feelings, then that is okay. However, it’s when a white lie has malicious intent behind it that it becomes a bad thing.

Some people are throwing out white lies left and right because they are hiding something or even covering up what they really feel. Someone who loves you shouldn’t feel the need to constantly lie to you all of the time, no matter how small the lie is.

We should always be able to count on our partners to give us the truth about things when we ask.

6. No Common Interests Or Shared Dreams Or Unconditional Support

You often tell him about your dreams. Maybe you wish to open up your own shop, start an online business, or get more involved in a local charity. But every time you talk to him about it, he simply nods and acts distracted. Worse, he puts your dreams down and doesn’t offer you any kind of support.

If this is the case, don’t even bother being with him. Even if your ideas are somewhat crazy, he should always support you no matter what. It’s okay for him to offer realistic suggestions and thoughts, but he should always back you up when it comes to your dreams.

After all, no one thought we could fly a steel structure in the sky hundreds of years ago, yet someone put that dream to the test.

7. The Relationship Is Making You Miserable And Unhappy

Every time you do something together you are bored. You sit and eat in silence, take a walk in the park and don’t speak, and play on your phones in silence on the couch. Do you remember the last time there was a spark between the two of you? Do you recall the last time that he really made you laugh out loud?

A truly happy relationship means you can sit in comfortable silence at times. But that doesn’t mean you should settle for a person who doesn’t ever make you laugh or who won’t make an effort at conversation. Someone who has your same sense of humor is crucial to your relationship.

They should be serious when you need them to be and you should balance each other out. You should never waste your time and energy on someone who cannot make you smile.
