Herd Of 'Grieving' Ponies Hold Vigil All Night For Their Lost Family Member

The loss of a loved one is a sad but sure way to bring a family together to show their respect and renew their appreciation for life. We laugh, cry, and reminisce together about the wonderful times we shared with our departed, and this is not exclusive to humans.

Animals have shown us time and time again that they experience emotions, and this story of ponies coming together to grieve the loss of their herd member is further proof that animals are just like us.

This story begins with Sarah Simmons, who posted a photo of five ponies standing roadside one foggy, dark morning. Sarah explains that motorists often drive too fast through the forest roads near her home, and ponies are often unlucky if they happen to be crossing through at the same time.

The ponies remained at this spot all night to mourn the loss of their beloved family member laying on the opposite side of the road. The tight-knit herd showed signs of grieving and distress, and Sarah stressed how important it is to drive slowly through this side of town since ponies roam freely there.

The mother and half-sister of the lost horse, named Hazelhill Scrap, stayed the closest during the vigil, which suggests that they were the most emotionally close to the pony.

Sarah Simmons hopes her post will make people realize how important it is to drive cautiously when traveling through forest areas. Simmons, whose post has been shared thousands of times, wrote: “I hope by posting this it may make people realise that it’s not just the owner who it upsets but their herd members too."
