Spending time with her dad was Carlin Ensman’s joy, but unfortunately, it could not be practical. As a serviceman, he often had to travel away, which left Carlin missing him dearly, just like other servicemen children. Initially, the little girl did not understand why daddy had to be away.

Her mum had made efforts to help her understand why daddy had to be away, but she wished the opposite, even though she understood. She had, however, gotten a little used to her father being away. So, when she finally saw him at the airport, she let every emotion out.

On this fateful day, Carlin’s mum told her they were heading to the airport to meet a friend. She probably knew telling the truth would make their daughter anxious, or she chose to surprise her. For some time, her joy was all about watching planes take off and land. She did not anticipate something bigger was so close to happening.

When they were finally at the airport, Carlin’s mum led her to a specific spot and asked her to be still and face the hallway. Carlin innocently obeyed, but when dad turned around a corner, her calmness suddenly flew away. She screamed out loud and dashed straight up to meet him, and her dad picked her up with hugs and kisses.

She had waited to see him for so long, and it's easy to see in this heartwarming video, as Carlin’s mum was filming every moment. Her dad had equally missed his little girl, and she kept on kissing him. She was feeling the joy of her life and began to laugh after every kiss. Her dad asked if his little girl had missed him, but the question didn’t need an answer. Carlin figured out she would spend the next couple of weeks with her dad, and she could only cry with happiness.

Her mum, Mandy, has since shared the video, and Carlin’s reaction seems to stun many who get to watch the 55 seconds video. The original video gathered over 1 million views and more than 25,000 likes on YouTube. Sadly, it was taken offline in the meantime.

However, people are still expressing their love for the father-daughter reunion and re-sharing the video. ‘55 seconds of the purest joy one can ever see,’ one comment reads, with another claiming that Carlin’s dad will be a happy man for the rest of his life. The comment added to say Carlin is such an angel.

However, Carlin’s case is not unique. Millions of servicemen and women across the globe leave their children, perhaps even for more extended periods. According to statistics, more than 2 million children in the United States alone have had one of their parents deployed away since after the 9/11 attack.

Being away from a parent for long is one of the known challenges military children face. They have to deal with other pressures associated with their parent careers.

For instance, they have a ten times higher rate of relocation compared to civilian children. Also, such children have recorded higher cases of depression, anxiety, and mental health problems. However, it’s not always a losing situation for them.

They also have a range of positive aspects. Over 80% of military children in the US learn to speak other languages and relate to people of different ethnic and social backgrounds.

It can be incredibly hard to be away from parents. Carlin’s video with the dad is just one of the many reactions during a parent-child reunion. However, it is such an inspiration, especially the military families, and every parent out there deserves to view.
