Heartwarming Occasion Formerly Blind Dog Looks At His Family After Surgery

Oct 30, 2020 by apost team

After successful eye surgery, formerly blind dog Duffy couldn't contain his excitement as he sees his family for the first time after the procedure.

It's hard to know who is more excited, Duffy, or his human family. Duffy the Irish Terrier is a handsome little fella whose vision was snuffed out by diabetes. The Oxford Dictionary defines diabetes as, "A disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood." Thankfully, he was a candidate for surgery and his loving family signed him up.

In the video, the family is eagerly awaiting Duffy's entrance into a room after surgery. All of a sudden, and without advanced notice, the door bursts open, and in comes an excited dog kept on a harness by a medical worker.

When he enters the room, the quiet atmosphere is quickly overrun with high-pitched voices of glee and an ear-piercing whine from Duffy. Clearly, everyone is overjoyed, including Duffy, that he is out of surgery and that he can see. One of the adults in the room said of Duffy, "He just wants to go home."

Duffy can't contain himself. Whether he is just overwhelmed by the ability to see or he is also in post-surgery pain, or a combination of both, we can't be sure. But, whatever the feeling is, he can not keep still. He rushes towards one adult he recognized and allows her to rub him.

He is so energetic that he never stops thrashing. At one point, he hits his head against the wall, but, not to worry. His entire face is covered on the sides with a cone-shaped, protective, hard-plastic shield. It kept him from being injured.

He goes over to another adult and just keeps it moving. Still whining. But, this is one of the best whining ever. Duffy was blind, and after successful surgery, sees the world anew. Among the cacophony of high-pitched "ooouus," and "ahhs," the medical personnel in the room are recalling the events of the day.

However, the normal volume of her voice just can't compete with the wailing chorus in the background. She can be heard telling Duffy's human family that the surgery was successful and that Duffy was such a good boy. Whatever else she said wasn't clearly audible, but it was certainly music to the ears of Duffy's family.

This is not just a feel-good story: it's a see-good story. With just one surgery, Duffy's has a new lease on life. Being able to see is going to change his quality of life, and he has so much to discover.

He will now be able to see the things he once could only identify by sound and smell. He is so very blessed that surgery was not only an option, but the outcome was just what the doctor ordered.

If what the video communicates on camera is a sign of things to come, Duffy will be well cared for by his family. It is clear that he is one very well-loved dog. What happened to Duffy on that operating table is a miracle, one that will hopefully give optimism to other blind dogs. Seeing is believing.
