Heartbroken Dad Rushes To Console Rejected Daughter Before Finding Out The Shocking Truth

Seventeen-year-old Gabby Barrett, who has been singing since she was nine-years-old, says she would never have been able to audition for "American Idol" without her loving father’s support. Blase Barrett worked two jobs to make ends meet and make it possible for his daughter to audition for the show.

Gabby describes herself as having always been a “daddy’s girl.”

In this video, Gabby auditions in front of the three judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan with a Carrie Underwood song. The judges didn’t like the song choice for her voice and were pretty tough on the teen as she bounced back with more songs by the artist.

The judges were relentless, critiquing how her voice sounded too “gimmicky” and commenting that it didn’t sound country like she wanted it to.

Gabby took it all in stride, though, and instead of rejecting her outright, the judges requested that she choose another song and try again. When she went out on a limb, took a risk, and sang a more emotional tune from church, it turned her audition around immediately.

The teen got a “yes” vote from all three judges for her improved song choice, and she moved on to the next round of the competition.

But Katy Perry suggests they “punk” her dad-- make him think she got rejected, and lead him in to console her, only to reveal the Idol ticket and share that she made it past auditions. Gabby and the two other judges play along, and when Gabby turns around with the news that she got it, her father’s reaction is priceless.
