A Dog Who Can't Swim?

Though most dogs know how to swim through instinct, others need lots of time in the water to become comfortable with it. It is hard to classify an entire dog breed by likes and dislikes because like us, preferences are highly personal.

It does seem common that chihuahuas tend to shy away from the water. If you've ever tried to bathe a chihuahua in the bathtub, you were probably met with some resistance. It doesn't always mean your dog doesn't like the water, though. Like children, dogs must get used to a completely different feeling of being in the water. If your dog has never experienced being in the water, it is a brand-new experience for them. If you can remember your first time in the water, do you remember being terrified or exhilarated?

Starting your dog out in the water when she's very young can help increase her affinity for it. It can also help hone her swimming skills in the exact same way it can help your child. Chihuahuas are usually no bigger than six pounds and this benefits in keeping them afloat in the water.

So, now we know that although Tim, also known as Tiny Tim, probably can swim, he simply prefers not to. Luckily, he doesn't have to!

A Rescue Story

Ben and Tim's owners initially fostered Tim from Texas. Immediately, Tim decided Ben, with his huge stature, would make a good step-stool or even sleeping bag. The two have been inseparable ever since. Even though Ben outweighs Tim by at least 120 pounds, the two have formed a strong friendship that is undeniable. Ben is clearly a gentle giant who enjoys Tim's company.

They even have their very own Instagram page that documents their adventures together. Over 46,000 followers enjoy watching the tales of Tiny Tim and Big Ben. It is not uncommon to see Tim perched upon Ben's back in most of the pictures and videos.

A Little Help, Please

So, it only makes sense that when posed with a day on the lake, Ben would want to help his tiny buddy enjoy it, too. I mean, what fun is being on the lake if you can't spend it with your best friend? Since Tim was regularly using Ben as a seat, it seemed natural he would use him as a flotation device, too. The adorableness is turned all the way up here! This super-cute video begins with Tim looking terrified and holding onto Ben's neck for dear life. He appears to be shaking, and he's probably hoping not to fall off into the water. We suppose we'd be shaking too if we were worried about sinking to the bottom of the lake.

As Ben paddles around effortlessly, Tim keeps a tight hold onto his neck. There comes a point where Tim seems to relax and almost sit down between Ben's shoulders. You can see in the crystal-clear water that Ben is gaining a foothold on the shoreline and what happens next is simply hilarious.

Hang On Tight!

As Ben gains his footing in the shallower water, he immediately feels the need to dry off. As anyone who has ever owned dogs knows, this means a wild shaking. If you are anywhere near said shaking dog drying off, chances are you will soon be wet, too!

But what happens when you're riding on the back of a dog who suddenly needs to shake the water off? The answer is to hang on tight! This is exactly what Tim did as Ben instinctually shook the water from his fur. You can see the poor little dog being tossed a bit. In fact, he goes from facing forward to completely facing backward.

As he gets his bearing, Tim again holds on tight while Ben's tail is wagging in his face. You can't help but giggle as he stands there, almost frozen. When it finally appears as if Ben is done with his shaking, Tim takes a look around to assess the surroundings.

Tim still looks somewhat terrified, but he seems to know he is safe atop his good buddy, Ben. So, what do you think of this adorable video? Did it give you just the right amount of cheer to go about your day?

Pass on the cheer and this video to all your dog-loving friends and family. Don't forget to check out these two dogs on Instagram to see more of their adventures. We promise you will be all up in your feels!
