It’s hard to imagine going to a restaurant or even grabbing takeout without adding on an order of fries. There’s nothing quite like the delicious goodness of a salty, grease-laden fried potato! But a Harvard professor is now stepping up to give us some surprising news about French fries that may change the entire way that we view our dining experience.
Dr. Eric Rimm, Harvard Professor in the Departments of Epidemiology and Nutrition, told The New York Times, instead of cutting fries out of our diet, we need to seriously cut back on them. The Harvard University professor points toward the number of fries that we consume and suggest that the ideal serving is only six French fries each meal.

Dr. Rimm explains that potatoes are bad for your diet and your health, even going so far as to call them “starch bombs”. Realizing that the chances of people cutting French fries out of their diet entirely are almost non-existent, Dr. Rimm decided to point toward cutting back as the best plan.
“There aren’t a lot of people who are sending back three-quarters of an order of French fries,” Dr. Rimm told The New York Times. “I think it would be nice if your meal came with a side salad and six French fries.”

Convinced that lowering French fry consumption makes a big difference in one’s health, Dr. Rimm advises consumers to try it for themselves.
He suggests that they keep a record of how they feel after eating six fries compared to how they feel after stuffing in an entire restaurant serving. He thinks that the public will be more open to the six fry option after they see how it changes their health.
While you may not want to purchase an entire order of fries and only eat six of them, consider limiting your consumption by purchasing smaller portions or else sharing a large order among friends and family members.
While the public may not be ready to accept Dr. Rimm’s six fry suggestion, it does help us remember that we are in control of our portion sizes
