Amid negotiations of Prince Harry and Meghan's stepping down from the royal family, their attempt at trademarking the 'Sussex Royal' brand has been blocked. An Australian doctor however filed a complaint that prevents the couple from trademarking the name in the meantime.

Although the Queen issued a statement saying the Sussexes "will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations" they cannot formally represent The Queen. Buckingham Palace is still deciding on whether Meghan and Harry's HRH titles will be stripped or not.

With 11 million followers on Instagram and many items already trademarked, the name could potentially be brought with the couple into their new life. However, an Australian doctor's complaint has stopped the couple's progress.

According to the Daily Mail, Benjamin Worcester is a doctor who lives in Victoria, Australia, but has worked for the NHS from 2011 to 2014. Worcester filed a complaint against the couple trademarking 'Sussex Royal' but it has not been discovered why. Meghan and Harry are hoping to use the brand for items like T-shirts, hoodies, journals, and gloves in the hope to become financially independent.

The Intellectual Property Office released documents that show all the items that the royals intend to trademark which include: teaching materials, printed educational materials, printed publications, educational books, textbooks, magazines and newsletters.

Retail experts told the Daily Mail that the Sussex Brand could generate revenues from £400million to £1billion ($5,200,000 to $1.3 billion)

The Queen released a statement regarding Harry and Meghan's wish for a more independent life. "We respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family. Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives. It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK."
