Harry And Meghan Alter The Name Of Sussex Royal Foundation

Ever since Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping down as working members of the royal family, the fine details of the major change have continued to come to light.

Now, in a further step towards independence, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are changing the name of their foundation, formerly titled the Sussex Royal Foundation, to remove "royal" from the title.

The name change comes as part of the agreement between Harry and Meghan and other senior members of the royal family, as they supposedly agreed to no longer use the word "royal." Having to forgo Sussex Royal as the official name of their foundation, the new name is said to be MWX Foundation, as reported by the Daily Mail—with the current theory that the letters stand for Markle Windsor.

The reason for the name change, which was initiated via official paperwork submitted to Companies House on August 5, is due to actions the couple has had to fulfil as per their royal exit. However, their Instagram page and website still appear to bear the Sussex Royal name.

Their official departure was nicknamed Megxit by the press and prompted discussions with royal aides that concluded the couple would no longer be able to use the word "Royal" in any of their brandings. According to an official statement that was released on Meghan and Harry's website outlining the terms of their departure, it said:

"While The Duke and Duchess are focused on plans to establish a new non-profit organisation, given the specific UK government rules surrounding use of the word 'Royal', it has been therefore agreed that their non-profit organisation will not utilise the name 'Sussex Royal' or any other iteration of 'Royal'.'"

It further added that the change would be global and not limited to the UK:

"While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use ‘Sussex Royal’ or any iteration of the word ‘Royal’ in any territory (either within the UK or otherwise) when the transition occurs Spring 2020."

However, the name MWX is not new to the couple—just last year in August, they established a company called MWX Trading Ltd, and named Gerrard Tyrrell, their lawyer, as the secretary.

Meg and Harry officially exited the royal family on March 31 of this year. Prior to that, they'd moved to North America at the beginning of 2020, before settling down recently in California after having purchased a new house in Santa Barbara very recently.

The last year was a big one for the couple, with officially exiting the royal family, moving to North America, and celebrating the first birthday of their son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. Additionally, a biography titled Finding Freedom was recently released about the couple, exposing the mistrust and resentment that supposedly led to the couple's exit from the royal family.

What are your thoughts on Harry and Meghan having to drop the word "Royal" from their foundation name? Do you think MWX Foundation has the same ring as their Sussex Royal title did? We'd love to hear your thoughts!
