Harrison Ford Says Nobody Will Ever Take His Place As Indiana Jones

There are iconic roles in the history of cinema that we associate with particular actors: Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale, Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump, etc. For these roles and so many more, nobody could ever replace the actors that play them. Their screen presence is just irreplaceable.

Harrison Ford is lucky enough to be an actor cast in not one but two truly legendary roles in cinema history. The first being Han Solo, the renegade hero of the Star Wars series who he played in four films. But yes, this character has been played by another actor Alden Ehrenreich in the prequel “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

The second truly iconic character who he has been exploring in four films since 1981, and who only Ford has played on screen, is the emblematic explorer Indiana Jones. Ford recently appeared on The Today Show to talk to Craig Melvin about his upcoming movie “The Secret Life of Pets”, but that doesn’t mean Melvin didn’t sneak in a question about his past role as Indy.

Melvin asked him the daring question “When you’re done with the role, who would you like to see as Indiana Jones?” Indiana Jones 5 is rumored to be coming out in 2021 according to ET, and Melvin wanted to see what he thought. The answer he got from Ford surprised him:

"Nobody," Ford said on The Today Show. "Nobody is going to be Indiana Jones, don't you get it? I'm Indiana Jones. When I'm gone, he's gone. It's easy." He then laughed and added "This is a hell of a way to tell Chris Pine," Ford said. "I'm sorry, man."

Social media reacted to his excellent answer in agreement.

It’s no doubt that we live in a world of remakes so it’s no wonder the host asked who an Indiana Jones replacement could be.
