Harrison Ford And Calista Flockhart Reminisce Over The Wingman Who Connected Them 18 Years Ago

Feb 11, 2022 by apost team

Harrison Ford has been married to Calista Flockhart since June 15, 2010, and they share one adopted son. They live together on a ranch in Jackson, Wyoming, that Ford has owned since the 1980s. They had a chance meeting at the Golden Globes in 2002 and have been in love ever since.

Ford is known for appearing in the "Star Wars" franchise, but Han Solo is no longer flying solo these days; in fact, Ford just celebrated his 10th wedding anniversary with Flockhart in 2020. Based on all accounts, the two theatrical performers are a match made in heaven. Despite achieving a decade of matrimonial happiness, it hasn't necessarily been a cakewalk for the pair.

Flockhart is best known for playing the title role on the TV series "Ally McBeal." She has won a  Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award and was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards. Some of her other works include the series "Brothers and Sisters" and "Supergirl" and the film "The Birdcage."

On "Ally McBeal," Flockhart worked alongside James Marsden, and the two of them became friends. In fact, Marsden was acting as Flockhart's wingman while she was pursuing Ford. He said that Flockhart was nervous at first but quickly felt comfortable around the "Star Wars" actor. Ford had been married twice before he met Flockhart, and even though she had never been married, Flockhart did not mind.

To prove the true power of love, let's take a look at the wild trials and tribulations that this union has personally overcome.

The two first locked eyes in 2002 during the Golden Globes ceremony, and it was reported at the time that the "Ally McBeal" actress intentionally spilled her drink on Ford as an excuse to strike up a conversation. However, the star insists that these events transpired the other way around in an interview with Hello! Magazine: "We were having a conversation for maybe 20 minutes before the wine spilled, and the truth is, Harrison spilled the wine."

Early on in their relationship, Flockhart recruited the help of her friend James Marsden to act as a wingman for her. "She said, 'Come to dinner with me and Harrison'. I'm like, 'Me, you and him?' It turned out to be a small group of us, thankfully, but I ended up as her wingman. We had dinner someplace in Brentwood (Los Angeles) and then went back to his house. He put music on and made everybody drinks," Marsden said.

Upon their initial encounter, these lovebirds were aged 60 and 38, respectively. For many members of the paparazzi, a primary focus of coverage tends to be all about that gap. No one knows if the difference of two decades is helping or hurting, but that factor provides a juicy piece of gossip either way.

While May-December couples often attract public attention for appearing risqué, every case is unique. Despite being born generations apart, these two are clearly stronger together. Furthermore, Flockhart has indicated that she feels like the more mature member of their partnership in the same interview:

"Wow, I keep forgetting that he's 22 years older than me. I sometimes feel very much older than Harrison."

Prior to their coupling, Flockhart adopted an infant son named Liam as a single mother. Ford moved in with them when the child was still a baby, and this domestic dynamic effectively turned the actor into a new dad all over again.

In describing the parental role that he has assumed, Ford joyfully told Reader's Digest, "It's a wonderful opportunity to be part of a child's growing up, which is always an endless springtime," as PEOPLE reported.

Matters took a stark turn in 2015 when Ford was involved in a serious plane accident. The aviation hobbyist was piloting a small WW2 aircraft when the engine malfunctioned. He was forced to make an emergency crash landing on a nearby golf course.

Unfortunately, the collision left him with a shattered pelvis, a broken back, and a ruptured ankle. Amazingly, his darling was there to support his recovery through the entire healing process, according to PEOPLE. Additionally, she still flies by his side to this day. That is some serious devotion right there.

The tumultuous nature of Ford's dating life has been thoroughly documented by the press. After two previous failed marriages and a salacious affair with "Star Wars" co-star Carrie Fisher, it's simply delightful to see this Hollywood icon reach a state of stability in his romantic world.

He actually met his future wife while going through a rocky divorce. Thus, the bond between him and Flockhart appears immeasurable. He even wore jeans to their wedding ceremony after a Valentine's Day proposal. Meanwhile, she donned a quaint sundress for the occasion. This just goes to show that real love can be low-key and down-to-earth.
