Not all people are born with a silver spoon. The reality is there are a lot of people who live from paycheck to paycheck. As disappointing as it may sound, some people must even juggle two or three jobs just to make ends meet or to provide for the people they love or care for. That leaves them with little to no time to spend with their family.
The truth is, there are some people who try their luck on things hoping their lives will change – and that includes the lottery. Of course, there’s no guarantee that a person who tries their luck on the lottery will become instantly rich.
But as they, there’s no harm in trying. And for those who badly need them, there’s the line that says: “What’s there to lose?” If luck is on your side, you’d most likely think it was good that you made the decision to go for it! At the end of the day, it’s all about taking chances. For one woman from Cambourne in Cambridgeshire, she did that exactly – and luck was on her side!
Sally-Ann Hanitzsch has been working shifts as a customer service assistant at a supermarket for 20 hours per week. On top of that, she also has a full-time role as a council assets officer at the Cambridge City Council. The 55-year-old admitted that it had been “very tiring” for her. But little did she know that her life was about to change in December 2022.
“I did have two jobs which was very tiring,” she told ITV.
Hanitzsch, who buys lottery tickets before she starts her shift at the supermarket, said she usually didn't check her lottery ticket because she thought she only had a slim chance of winning.

During the EuroMillions draw on Dec. 2, 2022, Hanitzsch matched all five main numbers plus a Lucky Star. But she didn’t check her ticket until a month later, not knowing that her life had already changed even before the year had ended.
Recalling the moment she found out she won, she said: “I thought she was joking but I called during my break before returning for the rest of my nine-hour shift, knowing I was £838,000 richer.” She won £838,125.50 (about $1 million).
Now, she will finally be able to enjoy a stress-free life as the money has officially been awarded to her.
While Hanitzsch is planning to buy a house after years of living in socialized housing, she is also planning to give back to other people on top of her intention to help her family. But the best part? She is now debt-free.
"The win means I'll be able to have some of that time back and also help my family financially," Hanitzch told the BBC. "I'm now debt free; I'm buying a home, having lived in social housing for years,” she added.
Hanitzsch said she would buy her two children, Jack and Sophie, homes as well as buy a car for herself on top of her dream visit to Japan.
"I'm going to help Jack and Sophie to get on to the property ladder, buy a new car, probably a new Ford Fiesta as I don't need anything bigger, go on a few holidays and plan the big trip to Japan,” she remarked.
On fulfilling her dream to visit Japan, she said: “I just love Japan, the lights, the automated machines, the cartoons, sumo, the food. I’ve never been and it has always been a dream I thought I’d never be able to fulfill.”
