In this beloved romance-comedy film, Bullock plays a manipulative Canadian publisher facing deportation. In order to avoid her fate, she guarantees her assistant (played by Ryan Reynolds) a long-deserved promotion if he marries her in order to retain her US citizenship. The connection between Bullock and Reynolds (and, of course, Betty White, who plays Reynolds' grandmother) makes this an enjoyable comedy for all.

Bullock's character is challenged to always remain blindfolded, or else she sees horrors that will also cause her to end her life. The gripping thriller is enhanced by Bullock's performance, and it drew in millions of viewers just its first week after being released.

3. Miss Congeniality (2000)

In another heartwarming comedy movie, Bullock plays FBI agent Gracie Hart. She's the kind of woman who doesn't bother with makeup, prefers a pantsuit over a dress, and doesn't let herself be hassled by her male co-workers. In an unexpected turn of events, agent Hart discovers that the Miss USA pageant is the next target for terrorists. The mission then requires her to grudgingly take on the undercover persona of pageant queen and mix in with other pageant competitors in order to save the day. Bullock has to learn a whole new decorum in order to complete her mission, hence the name 'Miss Congeniality.'

4. Gravity (2013)

In this movie, Bullock takes her turn in the role of a scientist. After their shuttle is wrecked in a mishap, Bullock's character scientist Ryan Stone and experienced astronaut Matt Kowalski (played by George Clooney) are left in space with nothing other than the oxygen tanks on their backs. The two must work together to figure out how to live with limited resources and return home before time runs out. Aside from the technological effects, Bullock's Oscar-nomination-worthy performance drew in much attention at the box office.

5. Speed (1994)

In this older Bullock film, the insane-but-not-stupid character of Dennis Hopper sets a bomb on a bus that is set to detonate if the vehicle, which is packed with passengers, does not exceed 50 mph. Young but astute detective Jack Traven — played by Keanu Reeves — jumps on board, enrolling young Annie Porter, played by Bullock, to operate the bus while he figures out how to defuse the situation. This is an action-packed thriller fit for anyone looking for a suspenseful movie to watch.
