Jerry Springer was born to German-Jewish refugee parents Margot and Richard Springer on February 13th, 1944 in Highgate, Middlesex, England. In an interview on The Rosie Show, Jerry discloses how his parents were the "88th and 89th last Jews let out of Germany" and escaped Nazism on August 7th, 1939 with visas to England and the ages of 33 and 35. However, Jerry reveals that both sets of his grandparents were unable to obtain visas and were eventually murdered by the Nazis in concentration camps.

In January of 1949, Jerry and his parents emigrated to Queens, New York.

Although he may be most known as a TV host, Springer actually worked in law and politics before he became famous on TV. According to Britannica, after earning a political science degree from Tulane University and a law degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, Jerry Springer worked on the Robert F. Kennedy presidential campaign. He was then later elected mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio and served from 1977 until 1978.

After making a name in the political world, Jerry Springer aired the first episodes of The Jerry Springer Show, which mostly revolved around political topics, until it departed from its political roots and became a wild TV sensation with famous guests and scandalous stories.

Now Jerry Springer has turned to a new TV project, Judge Jerry. Making a return to his start in law, the arbitration-based reality court show had its first run on September 9, 2019.
