It's always good business practice to give customers exactly what they want. If a customer base has a wide range of wants and needs, there's money to be made for any business that's willing to do what's necessary to keep as many customers as satisfied as possible. For one London-based beauty salon, giving customers a choice also means not doing something, in this case talking.

Barbershops and beauty salons have long had a reputation for being great social gathering places. People show up to get their hair and nails done but also seem to enjoy the camaraderie they can share with hairdressers and other customers.

Of course, that creates quite a dilemma for patrons who would prefer a little time to simply get their thoughts together.

That's why Not Another Salon has made the decision to offer the "silent" cut and color. By appointment, customers can come in to have their beauty needs met. During the process, they are assured there will be no conversation or idle chit-chat beyond being questioned about what types of service they will require.

Owner Sophia Hilton told Cosmopolitan: "In order for us to be a true non-judgment company we need to consider all our clients' needs." She then added, "With mental health issues on the rise, feeling comfortable to say when you need time out couldn't be more important."

The "silent" concept is part of an attempt on the part of the salon to create an environment that's welcoming to customers from all walks of life.

This has been made very clear on the salon's website that offers this: "We are all a bunch of misfits, who came together to one place to be accepted for who we are and our aim is to make you feel as ‘you’ as we feel every day."
