Last week, both Jane Fonda and Sharon Osbourne made headlines with their new silver hairstyles. The move reflects a growing movement over the past years that sees women embrace their graying hair as a natural part of the aging process.

Jack Martin, the stylist behind the two women’s new looks, spoke to reporters about his experience with Fonda and Osbourne.

Jack Martin spoke to Vanity Fair this week about his encounter with Fonda and Osbourne. Speaking of Sharon Osbourne, he said the TV personality grew tired of dyeing her hair so frequently.

“She was coloring her hair once a week,” Martin explained. “She told me, ‘Jack, I cannot even smell or look at color anymore. Every week, I have to go color and sit in that chair.’ With her new hair, she could stretch a visit to the salon to nearly six months.”

Osbourne appeared on her TV show ‘The Talk’ this week, where she spoke about her decision to make the change.

“I was just fed up of going and having it dyed, and having it dyed, and I just was like ‘I can’t do this anymore’,” Osbourne said.

“I’m like, ‘why am I trying to do something or be something that I’m not? So – just be who you are,” she added.

Of Fonda, he said, “she’s 82 years old, but her personality is maybe 30 years old.”

“[She is] very feminine at 82, and she loves to dress up,” he told the publication. “She loves to surprise people every once in a while with her new looks and new stuff. She wants to do it for the Oscars, like it’s a big change for the Oscars and then take it from there. She’s going to wear it all the time.”

The hairstylist also took to Instagram with a photo of Fonda’s new hair along with step-by-step instructions on how to achieve the look. Although some might be surprised he shared his “trade secrets” on social media, Martin says he doesn’t feel threatened by copycats.

“Let me tell you something: If you give your recipe to cook something to two people, they will never achieve the same exact dish,” he said. “Here is the formula. If you can achieve it, good for you, but you don’t have my hands. I don’t have your hands…. There is enough business for everybody and this is a new trend everybody loves to wear. Let them be good at it and let them make money and help other women.”
