The frontman of the group Maroon 5 was part of the original lineup of coaches on the very first season of the show with Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, and CeeLo Green back in 2011. In his departure announcement on Instagram a few days ago, he remarked on the show’s humble beginnings:

“About 8 years ago, Mark Burnett convinced us to sign up for this show where you sit in a big red chair with your back turned away from the singers on the stage. First thank you must go to Mark. ❤️ We had no idea what we were doing or where it was going. After the first day of shooting, I sat there, stunned. I said to myself ‘theres some magic here.’”

“The Voice” host Carson Daly announced Levine’s departure on the “Today Show” on May 24, and mentioned that he has won the competition 3 times. Daly said that Levine “will always be a cherished member of ‘The Voice’ family and of course we wish him nothing but the best.”

Daly also announced the exciting new coach who has previously appeared on the show on seasons 7, 9 and 12—Gwen Stefani. The rocker famously met her boyfriend, fellow coach Blake Shelton on the show in 2014, according to Insider.

Stefani will be joining Shelton as well as John Legend and Kelly Clarkson. This past season John Legend’s singer Maelyn Jarmon was crowned the winner, and it was Legend’s very first season.
