Gwen Stefani Celebrates Son Zuma Turning 18 With a Birthday Video That Has Every Parent Emotional

Aug 27, 2026 by apost team

Gwen Stefani has been marking Zuma's birthdays on Instagram for years — the cowboy hat photographs, the guitar videos, the captions full of extra letters and heart emojis. Each year the boy in the photographs gets taller. Each year Stefani writes some version of the same thing: she cannot believe how fast it has gone.

On August 21, 2026, Zuma Rossdale turned 18. Stefani, born Oct. 3, 1969, posted a video montage that began with the 18-year-old strumming a guitar and singing Zach Bryan's song "Dawn" — and then pivoted, with her characteristic humor, to a video of him as a toddler attacking a toy guitar while belting "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" at the top of his lungs.

"Happiest 18th birthday Zuma i cannot believe u are 18 today!!" she wrote in the caption. "Watching u grow into the sweetest + most talented young man has been one of the greatest gifts of my life. we love u soooo much Zuma."

The montage included baby photographs, footage of him losing a tooth, and a clip of him and stepfather Blake Shelton in matching cowboy hats — a nod to the bond the two have built since Stefani married Shelton in July 2021. Zuma's father, Gavin Rossdale, born Oct. 30, 1965, also posted his own tribute — a carousel captioned: "What an incredible person you are. You have always been so special but you're taking that into adulthood."

Stefani shares Zuma with Rossdale along with Kingston, 20, and Apollo, 12. She and Rossdale divorced in 2015 after 13 years of marriage.

Two parents. One stepfather. Three sons. One of them is now an adult. Stefani, apparently, cannot quite believe it.

Zuma's musical development has been one of the more quietly compelling storylines in the Stefani-Rossdale family over the past few years. He made his stage debut in July 2024 at Blake Shelton's Ole Red bar in Nashville — sitting on a stool in a cowboy hat, covering Zach Bryan's "Oklahoma Smokeshow" while Shelton stood to the side and the crowd cheered. He has since performed with his father Gavin during a Bush concert in New Jersey, where Rossdale surprised him on his 16th birthday with balloons and a cake on stage in front of 18,000 people. "It was so incredible to celebrate Zuma's 16th birthday with 18,000 people screaming happy birthday," Rossdale told PEOPLE at the time.

His older brother Kingston, 20, also performs publicly and writes his own music. Apollo, 12, has not yet debuted — but given the family's track record, it may only be a matter of time.

Days after his birthday, Zuma posted his own Instagram — a photograph of himself and his girlfriend, singer-songwriter Theran Rose, on a couch. On his lap was a brand-new Fender Telecaster she had given him as a birthday gift. "Thank you to my Beautiful Girlfriend @theranrosemusic for getting me this gorgeous @fender telecaster," he wrote. "I will be using this ol' beauty for many adventures and memories to come!"

He is 18 years old. He has a girlfriend. He has a Telecaster. He has a mother who posts birthday videos featuring a side-by-side of him at 18 and him at 3, doing essentially the same thing — playing guitar, singing a song, completely absorbed in the music.

Some things, it would appear, do not change.
