In 2017, Edmonton, Alberta local Michael Startsev gained international acclaim as a dancer and YouTube sensation when he used his brand new camera he received as a gift from his dad to record himself dancing in the basement of his home.

This Man Never Expected His Dancing Video To Go Viral

Everyone says that you should dance like no one is watching. For one Canadian man, he decided that instead, he would make sure the world was seeing his sick moves.  After having received a video camera from his father for Christmas, he created a YouTube channel called takeSomeCrime. To test out his new video camera, he uploaded a video of himself in his home dancing.

Has anyone ever asked you if you have a hidden talent, and your instinct is to say no? That's fairly similar to what happened when this video gained popularity. takeSomeCrime knew he was talented at dancing, but he didn't think he was so talented that millions of people would want to watch his video.

However, his swing style dance to the melodic tunes of Parov Stelar's Catgroove has proved that the internet absolutely adores when people have talent. What's most impressive about this video is that it went viral without much effort. He wasn't trying to make a viral video.

According to CBC, he didn't feel the video was polished enough for a large audience to watch. He figured a few friends would think it was cool, and that would be it. It was a good way to try out his camera, and that's what mattered to him.

He has talent, though. His dance moves are influenced by the dance style known as swing, which is relatively intricate. It involves moving your arms and legs in wide arches, often making them look animated due to the speed at which you move. It's not a well-practiced dance style anymore, however. He has it down, though, moving to the beat of the music and putting on a performance that's rather captivating.

He also dressed up for his first video, wearing a suit and a fedora that caught the audience's attention. It is almost like being taken back to the 1920s and 1930s when this style of dance was especially popular. People in the comments have gone wild over his performance. One commenter points out that watching him dance is kind of like being thrown back in time. Others comment, poking fun at his fedora.

Even some professional dance instructors and students have commented on the video, some critiquing his method and others expressing interest in the cleanness of his moves. While his video may not be an exceptionally high-production value, it definitely shows off his skills.

We would be interested in seeing how he continues to grow and evolve his dance style over the next few years, especially now that he has a following. Swing dancing isn't always easy to master. But he definitely does — he practically tells a story as he dances to the music, which is part of what makes his performance so captivating as a whole.

Do you think he has a lot of talent, or do you think you could do better? We love to hear from you, so be sure to jump in and give us your opinion.
