Guy Leaves His Job By Handing His Boss A 'Sorry For Your Loss' Card

When you walk through the greeting card aisle of your grocery store, you can seemingly find a card that is well-suited for most occasions. However, in the rare chance that you cannot find a pre-written message that perfectly conveys your sentiments, you may need to take a creative approach.

Few people have considered giving their employer a greeting card when resigning from a job. However, Sam Baines decided to take this unique approach and to leave his job in a truly memorable way. He had been working in a call center position in Sheffield in the UK for a year when the time came to part ways according to a report from Business Insider. 

Rather than providing his employer with a normally written resignation notice, he picked out the perfect greeting card. His selection was a sympathy card that expressed condolences for the card recipient’s loss and concern for the difficult time that the recipient was going through. To personalize the card, Sam left a handwritten note stating his last day on the job.

The humorous card understandably was posted on social media, and it received thousands of likes and retweets. When Sam was asked about the card later, he mentioned that it was all in good fun.

"We are a really close team and have a fantastic manager, so we're always joking around and having fun," He told Business Insider. "I knew I had to do something a little more creative when giving my notice to try and get one more joke in before I left!" 

He was leaving the job on good terms to go to college in the fall, and he was certain that his employer would find the humor in the card. Sam was right about this.

"I knew my boss would find it funny, so I wasn't worried about how they'd take it." he told Business Insider, "I came up with the idea because I was always joking about how much they'd miss me when I was gone, then thought a condolences card would be the perfect way to finish it off."

The card was well-received and provided everyone in the office and numerous people online with a good laugh.
