Some kids got a welcome surprise on their first day at a Philadelphia elementary school.  Students at Stearne Elementary were greeted by a red carpet lined with cheering fathers there to pump them up for the first day of school.

The idea to greet kids on the first day was the brainchild of Dave Miller and Jai Crabbe. The pair put the idea on social media, and soon they had an army of dads ready to create first day of school memories for hundreds of students.

One nervous boy named Ian was overcome with emotion while walking into the school, and several of the fathers noticed his tear-stained face as he walked by. To help ease his fears, several of the men gathered around him to share encouraging words and reassure him that all would be okay reports Inside Edition. The gesture seemed to work because the young man returned the dad's high fives and seemed to calm down.

Dave and Jai are both big believers in volunteering in their community. Jai leads a non-profit organization that provides activities and meals to needy individuals and Dave produces a line of clothing. The pair is making plans to do a similar event when it is time for the students to take their standardized tests and possibly more events in the future.

Individuals who step up to meet a need in their community inspire others to volunteer their time as well. Pass this story of a simple gesture uplifting a school and community along to someone who needs a reminder of the power of a good deed to change the world.
