Weddings are never easy to manage, even if you have a lot of the time and money to plan one. Even the most organized person understands that not everything will go according to plan as the wedding draws closer. In many cases, it is, unfortunately, difficulties with friends and family that cause the most stress. From bridesmaids that drop out to family members who come with unreasonable demands, there are many ways that a wedding can lead to a person becoming banned from it.
There are many stories of people becoming banned because they refused to leave their child at home for a childfree wedding, for example. However, sometimes, family secrets come out and leave the bride or groom in a tough position. For one man on Reddit, he came to know that his parents had been lying about his extended family knowing about his 3-year-old son, and it led him to ban his parents from his upcoming wedding.
Nowadays, it is not uncommon to have a child out of wedlock. In fact, many people co-parent their child in a healthy and loving manner even if the parents are not married. Moreover, the stigma related to having a child even if people aren't married has significantly reduced. The modern world has become much more accepting and open.
This does not mean that everyone accepts this, and the original poster (OP) explained that his parents did not approve of his son being born when he was young and unmarried. When he found out what the situation between his parents and extended family really was, he became furious.

In his Reddit post, the OP explained his situation, "My fiancée (22F) and I (22M) were childhood sweethearts, been friends since 4th grade then started going out in 6th. We had our son pretty young and I know it’s not what our parents wanted but it happened so what can you do right? Everyone loves him now and he’s the best thing to happen to us. Our son Jacob is 3."
He continued, "We live together on our own with him and a couple months ago I proposed to my girl. It’s gonna be a wedding with like 100 guests, many of them are my family that live in different states. We’re not close but for big family moments (i mean like weddings or funerals) everyone gets together."
He then went on to describe the strange request his mother made for the wedding: "Idk why but since we started talking about the wedding my mom kept saying my son should be left with his babysitter so everyone can enjoy and he’s not bored at some adult party. But me and my fiancée want him there to share our special moment." However, "My mom was really insisting on it."
He then came to understand the reason for this mother's request, "Then I found out the reason why was she doesn’t want the family to know about my son. As in my parents never told them that my girl and I had a baby together."
He continued, "She says it would be embarrassing, they don’t want to focus on that at my wedding and having others in the family maybe judging for having a baby 'out of wedlock.'"

Moreover, his parents "also obviously they don’t want them finding out that they omitted this info since my parents are the ones who talk to them all the time."
This led to a lot of anger on both sides, and the son decided to ban his parents from attending their wedding. However, even after a few talks with his parents about the situation, there was no resolution to the problem, and the OP's mother kept insisting that the couple leave their son at home.
This had led to a divide between all the close family members; while the OP's siblings were on his side, other members did not agree with his harsh stance. OP's parents were also upset about being left out of their son's special day. "My mom says she’s really hurt and I’m not her son anymore. This isn’t something I expected to be dealing with so right now I don’t know," the OP wrote.
However, most commenters assured OP that he was right in what he was doing. The top comment stated, "Your son is 3 years old. Even if you waited till after marriage to announce him I'm thinking people would be a bit suspicious of your 3 year old newborn. Also they're just in the wrong for wanting you to do that."
A response to the top comment concurred as the person wrote, "Also, what kind of mother says 'you're not my son anymore if you don't hide YOUR son from the entire family that I lied to so they won't gossip about me.' I think that sums up what kind of person she is."
