Having a family member that was in the military is something to be proud of. Over Memorial day, millions of people from across our country honor fallen soldiers and may visit their graves. You can see flowers and balloons left there to honor their sacrifices for our country.

A young boy has traveled to Wilmington National Cemetery for Memorial Day in order to place American flags on graves. He was 7-years-old and had an instant connection to one of the soldier's graves.

His name is Mason Lee and the grave he had found was of a soldier named Sergeant TJ Butler.

Mason wanted to know more about this man. He had a lot of questions about who he was and if he had a family.

They returned the next year to put the flags on the graves and once again Mason visited Sgt. Butler's grave.

He had drawn a picture of the American flag and a shield for him. He put it in a plastic bag and left it at his grave site.

He told his mother he did that because Sgt. Butler was a hero.

Butler's mother, named Leslie, also regularly visited her son's grave.

She found the picture Mason had drawn and was moved by this child's kindness.

She decided she wanted to meet this boy, so she could share her son's story.

They finally arranged to meet and Leslie prepared for him a Captain America toy.

She described her son Butler as always being a social butterfly.

She said she was proud of her son for being in the Army, but very sad because he was so young when he passed away.

Mason still plans to keep visiting and leaving a flag on Butler's grave.

Many young kids have an interest in soldiers, but it is very special when they honor the soldiers who have served our country.

With this story, we can continue to pass this message along and honor the fallen soldiers on Memorial Day. Do you have family members or friends you remember on this day? We hope this story lightened your heart a little bit.
