Gray-Haired Bride Embraces Natural Color On Wedding Day And Captures Internet's Eye

Aug 30, 2022 by apost team

When one bride agreed to share a few videos from her June 2022 wedding with TikTok, she probably only expected a handful of viewers to comment on her gorgeous gown and heartwarming "first look." Maybe they'd leave a nice note for the couple, commenting on her hubby-to-be's amazing choice of shoes. However, Kadeja Jackson instead received a flood of compliments on perhaps the last night a woman wanted attention for on her wedding day: her gray hair.

For the big day, Jackson had boldly embraced her gray hair, which grew in when she was only a teenager. She'd decided to stay true to herself and didn't dye it darker for the ceremony. Her makeup artist and the rest of her wedding team loved this energy, working Jackson's unique style into their plans.

The beautiful day took place at the Hotel Colonnade in Miami. Makeup artist, Tia Codrington, was sure to snap plenty of pictures, capturing, in particular, the full face transformation of Jackson on the morning of the ceremony. When Codrington's tens of thousands of followers caught sight of Jackson's beautiful look, they were shocked. She looked absolutely amazing.

On the TikTok revealing her masterfully applied makeup, Codrington wrote, "I love my bride's natural gray hair. She's had it since she was sixteen" and showed her followers how the beaming bride's hair so amazingly complimented her whole look. She cheekily captioned the video, "I love the girls that stick to their roots."

The video went viral, with thousands of women writing in response to her confidence and beauty.

Jackson was surprised by the response. In an interview with Insider, she admitted, "I was totally taken off guard. I see myself every day, so it's not a big deal." For Jackson, having gray hair had been a part of her every day since she was a teenager. Although in those earlier years, she also admitted she wasn't as confident in her hair as she was at her wedding. She said that it's "been a journey."

Understandably, Jackson had to work on embracing gray hair, which most women don't start to grow until they're much older, and even then they tend to reject it as a symbol of old age. On this reaction, Jackson said, "I can see how because at one point I didn't want it." She continued, touching on how emboldened her hair made her feel, "But it's empowering because you feel comfortable being yourself."

Everywhere folks take notice of Jackson's confidence as well as her gray hair. However, she told Insider, some people don't immediately realize it's actually her natural hair, given that at 38 she's still so young. She said, "I get stopped so many times a day and people ask me what hair color am I using. I'm like, 'I'm not using a hair color. That's my hair."

Codrington embraced her energy in crafting Jackson's look for the wedding. She explained, "I wanted her skin to look fresh and vibrant but also accentuate her gorgeous features ... Since her hair was the main attraction for me, I was very intentional with every step of her makeup process, ensuring the whole look was cohesive." The whole look was a sheer success, and hopefully, Jackson's signature gray looks will inspire other brides to be as bold on their big day.
