Most people probably don't know how they would thank a person for saving their life. For a cute dog named Gregory, the answer came naturally. The adorable 2-year-old beagle rewarded his savior with some affection and cuddles when his scheduled euthanasia was averted.

Concerned people found Gregory roaming the streets of Ohio without an owner and brought him to the Franklin Dog Shelter. At first, the dog seemed to be completely healthy, but tests revealed that he had a case of heartworm. This diagnosis is what ultimately led to a decision to euthanize the animal.

Luckily for Gregory, two people found out about Gregory's predicament and decided that the dog should not have to die.

These two individuals were Joe and Shenley Kirk. The married couple founded an organization called Hound Rescue and Sanctuary that is dedicated to saving dogs like Gregory from being euthanized at shelters.

The foundation also helps stray abandoned dogs with shelter, food, and medical attention. There are also many older dogs that will never find a home that the foundation provides housing for.

When the shelter owners found out about Gregory's predicament, they drove two hours to save him. Joe describes his meeting with the dog saying that it was like they had been long-time friends. When a friendly rapport developed between the rescuers and the dog, Gregory became very affectionate.

It seemed like he was being thankful to the couple for saving his life, and he also seemed to be relieved to be away from the place where he was scheduled to be put down. Dogs are usually transported in a crate, but in the case of this special puppy, Joe decided to let him ride in the car like a human pal.

At one point, Gregory placed his head on Joe's shoulder as if to thank him for his kindness. The moment was so adorable that Joe took a picture of himself and the dog in this amazing pose.

It's the perfect visual depiction of a sweet dog who is grateful for his rescue and knows he is now safe. The dog will receive treatment for his heartworm affliction, and he will be well cared for and hopefully live a happy life.
