Music has a magical way of touching heartstrings and stirring powerful emotions for those of all ages. One young girl brought tears to her grandfather’s eyes recently with her special song selection and musical tribute on Christmas Eve.

When Mike Brook was younger, he had a strong desire to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army. Unfortunately, partial hearing loss and a few old football injuries from high school made him ineligible. Brook took his unique heartbreak and combined passion for serving his country and transformed it into an original song about a veteran soldier. As the years progressed, Brook regularly sang the song to his children.

It was such an emotional song to him even after many years that he often teared up as he sang it to them. Brook is now 69 years old, and his children are grown. However, Brook and his children both have strong memories of this song. When his granddaughter learned about the significance of this song, she decided to pay a special tribute to her beloved grandfather by recording a performance of herself singing his song.

When the granddaughter's version of the song was played for the family, the song was immediately recognizable to Brook. Tears began to well up in his eyes almost as soon as the first few notes were played. In fact, the performance left more than one person in the room feeling emotional. Brook’s daughter said she was stirred by the performance as well because seeing her father tear up when he sang it to his children many years ago was a special childhood memory of hers.

The granddaughter was inspired to create her own recording of the song after she and her mother stumbled upon the lyrics. The written lyrics had been stashed away in an old box in the garage for many long years. The granddaughter saw how emotional the song lyrics made her own mother when she realized what she was holding. The decision to create a tribute for her grandfather as well as for her mother was easy for her to make. The recorded performance was played for the family on Christmas Eve. This is a special family memory that will live on in each of them.
