Grandmother That Loves Christmas Baubles Breaks Record With Over 1,700 Christmas Decorations

When it comes to planning for the ultimate and most festive Christmas, a 79-year-old woman has proven to be the best at decorating. Sylvia Pope, better known as Nana Baubles, was reported to have broken the record for the world’s largest collection of Christmas bauble ornaments in December 2021. She has more than 1,700 of the stunning, hanging ornaments.

Pope lives in Swansea, a city in Wales, and has a huge collection of Christmas baubles, so much so that it has become what she is most known and recognized for. Her ornaments are very unique, helping her collection really stand out amongst the rest. They range in different sizes, shapes, materials and colors, and even come from a plethora of places, from both commercial stores and memorable places that Pope’s family has visited over the years.

Pope’s collection is a spectacle both inside and outside her house, with gorgeous baubles hanging from the ceilings inside her home as well as being put on display on outside surfaces for passersby to see. Now, her collection will be seen by even more people across the globe as Nana Baubles earned herself a Guinness World Record for having the world’s largest collection of Christmas bauble ornaments. 

While the delighted woman has much to celebrate this holiday season, she has even more surprises for people to expect in the upcoming years as she plans on going bigger and better than ever with her bauble collection. Her Ever-Growing Collection

In December 2021, Swansea Bay News reported that Pope earned herself a Guinness World Record for having a huge collection of bauble ornaments, with 1,760 hanging ornaments in total. Craig Glenday, the Editor in Chief at Guinness World Records, said:

“We all need a bit of yuletide cheer right now, and records like these really put a smile on your face. Nana Baubles clearly has an infectious passion for Christmas and has created her own record-breaking winter wonderland at home. It’s wonderful to be able to share her joy of the festive season with the rest of the world.”

Pope’s love for the unique ornaments and inspiration to start her own collection first came about back in 1999. “My son, who lived in Brighton, invited us to spend New Year with him,” she said. “We went to a friend’s house for a drink and, when I walked in, they had the baubles on the ceiling. It was fantastic.”

Since then, Nana Baubles has been buying the ornaments by the box, and has also been given many as gifts over the years. Swansea Bay News reported that not all of them are classically round or festive-themed, but still count toward her massive collection. “They are more like a Christmas decoration than a bauble, aren’t they?” Pope said.

Some pieces in Pope’s collection include food-shaped ornaments, telephone boxes and Disney characters. Others also hold sentimental value, including the small red bauble she was given by her great-grandson and a Royal Doulton that was created for Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Anniversary. According to Swansea Bay News, Pope predicts that she will have over 2,000 bauble ornaments either next Christmas or the one after that.
