Grandma Is Barely Recognizable To Her Grandkids Because Of Glam Makeover

A grandmother is making headlines after a stunning makeover. It all started with a man named Christopher Hopkins. He is also known as “The Makeover Guy.” Formerly a live performer, he decided to take his makeup skills and begin a new career as a beauty guru.

Christopher Hopkins' specialty is transformative videos on his popular Youtube channel for men and women over the age of 45. He has even written a book about it: "Staging Your Comeback: A Complete Beauty Revival for Women Over 45."

Kelly from Iron Mountain, Michigan is a busy grandmother

Kelly was a senior citizen from Iron Mountain, Michigan who stumbled across his YouTube channel and was impressed by what she saw. As a busy grandmother, she did not have a lot of time to focus on her appearance, and she was afraid that she had let herself go over the years. She knew that she was in desperate need of a beauty revival so she went to visit Hopkins’ studio in Minneapolis back in May 2019.

"It's time to do something that is just for me," she told the camera. "Hopefully, this is going to be the ticket." A short while later, Hopkins invited her to his studio, and the makeover began.

His main concern was Kelly's hair. Kelly had taken to wearing it in a constant ponytail rather than dealing with it every day. Hopkins cut, dyed, treated, and styled it. He made the locks soft and shiny again, and he took the color to a lighter look.

She had been getting her hair texture wrong all these years

During the course of his work, he discovered something that even Kelly had not known before: Her hair was naturally wavy! “It seemed to be pin straight but it’s changed now from you know, my age,” Kelly says. She'd always brushed it into straightness, but Hopkins brought out a natural wave supported by pin curls, according to the YouTube video description.

The next step was the makeup. Rather than giving Kelly a complicated beauty routine that she wouldn't have time to maintain on busy mornings, he kept things simple, natural, and soft. The video description said the lips were kept soft so that her eyes would be the highlight.

Her family was in shock, but in a good way, of course!

By the time Hopkins was finished, Kelly looked like a brand new person. The grandmother had taken decades off her look. Her own family couldn't believe her transformation! “Oh, my babies came to see me!” Kelly can be heard saying as her children and grandchildren enter the room. She asks them: “Does it look like me? No, it doesn’t? It is me! It’s Mimzy!”

“You look great. Oh my gosh,” one of Kelly’s sons says to her. The whole family looked totally captivated by Kelly’s revamping as they filmed the moment on their phones. 

When the video was posted on YouTube, her family and other viewers flocked to the comment section with joy.

"This is my mom and it was so incredible to see her transform!" her daughter Jessica, wrote. "Christopher, you're so wonderful inside and out! Thank you to you and your glam team!"

“I love the way she reacted as well as her family! She’s young again in body & spirit! Perfect,” wrote one viewer. Many said that while she looked beautiful, her personality was the winner. One person said: “Well that's how to shed 20 years in one day! Oh wow! She's got a wonderful personality and now her outside matches the inside! Beautiful, spunky, and funny!

She had to do multiple takes of herself to believe

Kelly was in awe at the reveal of her new look. She repeatedly exclaimed “Wow!” as she checked herself out from different angles. She even does a little happy dance in her seat with both her hands in the air. Hopkins was delighted by how happy Kelly was with her makeover — you can hear his hearty chuckles in the background! “No way,” Kelly says, still taking in the situation. “I feel gorgeous. It’s not pretty, it's freaking gorgeous.”

It was the perfect day to get her makeover done as Kelly and her family had dinner plans afterward. “I’m glad we’re going for dinner tonight, I can be glamorous,” she says. We bet she got her picture taken a whole bunch that evening!

At the end of the video, Kelly proceeds to do a pirouette, showing us a 360-degree view of her new hair, makeup, and clothes. She looked over the moon. Hopkins, you’ve done it again!

On his LinkedIn profile, Christopher describes himself as an “entrepreneur, entertainer, cyber-star, author, and appearance aficionado.” According to his Wikipedia page, Christopher’s salon was originally located in the Hubbard Broadcasting building in St. Paul, Minnesota. Four years later in 1994, he relocated it to his hometown in Minneapolis and renamed his salon from ‘Christopher Hopkins Salon’ to ‘Christopher Hopkins Image Center’, CHIC, for short.

Christopher has helped boost the confidence of countless clients over the years with his expertise. His client sample is no stranger to notables. His author's biography on audible.com notes that he has worked with famous people like Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Lauren Holly, Robert Wagner, and Stephanie Powers.

It would seem like the beauty industry is truly Christopher’s calling. Christopher’s mother, Joann Hopkins, who is sometimes seen in his videos serving as a fashion adviser to the clients, says that her son showed interest in playing dress-up and was aware of his appearance from a very young age. “At 18 months he talks quite a bit, most everything he tries to say is quite clear. He likes to play with shoes. Loves animals. A big tease. Likes to play with girls, dress-up, and dolls. Loves to play records, the music of all kinds. Likes his hair cut and combed just so,” Joann says on Christopher’s about page on his website.
