This year will go down in the history books for being one of ferocious wildfires. Both homes and precious lives have been claimed by the unquenchable blazes. One of the worst has been the Carr Fire in Northern California.

Numerous residents have fled the Carr Fire with little or no possessions, barely escaping with their lives. Due to high winds and dry weather conditions, the path of the destructive flames has been difficult to predict.

According to experts, the air pulling in the fire creates a phenomenon known as a "firenado" or "fire vortex," which is very, very dangerous for anyone unfortunate enough to be in its path. These fire vortexes can rapidly grow, so it's important to get far away from their reach.

Some residents of Shasta County, California, were unaware of the severity or closeness of approaching wildfires. When Ed Bledsoe exited his property to go to a doctor's appointment on July 26th, he had no idea that he would never see his dear wife Melody or his great-grandkids James "Junior" (age 5) and Emily (age 4) again.

That fateful Thursday when he left the home James had no clue that the fire was coming toward their home. Bledsoe explained to reporters that he and his wife had not heard any kind of warning to evacuate their home.

Shortly after he left, Ed got what could be described as the most chilling phone call of his life. Melody informed him that she and the kids were being trapped by the approaching fire.

Ed and Melody had raised their great-grandchildren from the time they were small. Ed's heart was shattered to hear their pleas for help. Though he tried to drive back, the road was completely blocked by traffic and wildfires.

With tears streaming down his cheeks, Bledsoe explained how Little Junior cried out for help over the phone, saying, "Grandpa, come and get me! The fire's coming in the back door!" Bledsoe then tried to reach his family on foot, but it was too late.

When they realized that he wouldn't be able to make it in time, Ed, Melody, and the kids said sorrowful goodbyes and said "I love you" to each other one last time. Their remains were identified in the aftermath of the fire.

All those who have lost loved ones in these devastating fires deserve all the love, help, and prayers they can get. Ed's friends and family are rallying around him, along with concerned citizens who are donating to a GoFundMe page set up to help him.
