Grandfather Has Sassy Conversation With Baby Girl And She Takes Hilarity To The Next Level

Babies are sheer bundles of adorableness. You never know what to expect when you spend time babysitting or hanging out with your younger family members. They get excited about the simplest things life has to offer, from staring at the clouds in the sky to playing with their morning cereal. It’s incredibly fun and rewarding to see them learn more as they continue to grow.

Watching babies find their footing is one of the most cherished moments in a parent’s life, and so is the time their baby says his or her first word. It’s amazing to know that one day they’ll be having fleshed-out conversations with their children and may even learn from them later on in life. Watching babies learn more about the world around them and comment on their surroundings is usually pretty silly and extremely entertaining to watch.

This is what grandfather found to be true when he was spending time with his granddaughter. The two of them appeared to be having a pretty lively conversation, although it was unclear just what exactly was being talked about since they both appeared to be using baby words and silly voices.

A video of the heartwarming moment was captured back in 2012 but wasn’t uploaded to YouTube until 2017. While viewers may struggle to understand exactly what this grandpa and this baby girl were talking about, it seemed like the two of them completely understood one another as they shared a sassy conversation filled with hilarious sounds and facial expressions. It’s clear that they had a lot of fun together.

Listen To Their Hilarious Conversation

Although baby talk is fun to listen to and fun to use to engage with children, some people believe that adults should work on avoiding this type of conversation tool. Dr. Kristyn Sommer, a mother with a Ph.D. in child development, shared some parenting tips on TikTok in July 2021, explaining that it's best to avoid baby talk and instead say words the correct way. "I slow down my speech, I elongate my sounds, I enunciate my words," Sommer said, explaining how she typically speaks to her own child.

However, it's undeniable that the language babies use is absolutely adorable and hilarious to listen to, and it's common for adults to engage in conversation using the same tone and sounds. In 2012, a video was filmed of a grandfather and his granddaughter engaging in a pretty sassy and hilarious conversation. It was later uploaded in the year 2017.

The baby in the video had a lot to say, and the grandpa was happy to respond in the same language she was speaking. Although it's unclear what the two were talking about, it's clear that they were enjoying their time together, and they talked in funny voices and words that sounded like nonsense.

Although fun to listen to, this type of nonsense baby talk that doesn't use proper grammar or words is fun to listen to, but not beneficial to the child's development, as some studies show. No matter how much fun it is to talk back to your small children like the grandpa in this video, the "good" kind of baby talk is proper, normal speech - albeit delivered in a higher speaking voice.

CNN reported on recent studies and their findings on language development in small children in 2020.

"True baby talk, which a new study shows can boost infant brain and speech development, is actually proper adult speech, just delivered in a different cadence," CNN writes. They also quote Naja Ferjan Ramirez, assistant professor at the department of linguistics at the University of Washington, as saying: "It uses real words and correct grammar, but it does use a higher pitch, a slower tempo and an exaggerated intonation."

Patricia Kuhl, the co-director of the Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences at the University of Washington, went on to explain the key concepts behind beneficial baby talk:

"One of them is that it has a higher overall pitch, about an octave higher. Another is that intonation contours are very curvy; the highs are higher, the lows are lower, and it sounds excited and happy. And then it's slower, with pauses between phrases to give the baby time to participate in this social interaction."

As we can see in this video, while grandpa may not use proper grammar and words, he certainly has all the other tips down pat, as he always leaves his granddaughter time to respond and actively engages her in their discussion!

Several people across the internet loved the video and left plenty of positive comments. One person commented, "As a grandfather of 15 I have had this conversation many times." Another user said, "Probably the most meaningful conversation on the internet." The video had a beautiful message, as another person pointed out: "It proves no matter the age, it's not the conversation that counts as much as the time you spend with each other."
