Grandfather Films Epic Holiday Adventure Movie With Grandchild’s Pig Figurines

It is a truth universally acknowledged that grandparents tend to spoil their grandchildren. However, one man went above and beyond that for one beloved grandchild by filming an epic adventure movie using her toys while on holiday.

Lisette, a 5-year-old from Sacramento, California, is a huge fan of the British cartoon program “Peppa Pig.” When her grandfather, David Zielke, 64, was packing for a holiday in Cabo San Lucas, Lisette secretly stashed four Peppa Pig toys into his luggage. When David discovered the stowaways, it immediately got his creative juices flowing. David began to film a movie using the figurines as his stars, staging elaborate “sets” in the exotic locations they were traveling through. With him during the holiday was Lisette’s aunt, Tanya, who documented David’s sweet endeavor and shared some behind-the-scenes footage on TikTok that became a hit with viewers.

“You guys want to see the sweetest thing? So my niece took her favorite toys and packed them into my dad’s luggage,” Tanya said in the clip. “He has been making this story of all their adventures for her and he’s going to play it for her when he gets back,” she added as the video showed David filming with his phone at various set locations, including by a pool, on sundeck chairs and in a restaurant.

“Don’t go too far out in the middle,” David said in a voiceover for the film as the pigs took a dip. “We are having a fancy meal here,” he added while filming at a restaurant table.

“At first, it was kind of embarrassing,” Tanya told Today and added when it was clear what David was doing, it melted hearts. “You could see the smiles come across everyone’s face as soon as they found out what was going on,” she remarked.

The clip touched viewers deeply and racked up more than 2.7 million views.

“THIS. GUY. RIGHT. HERE. Protect him!!” one user wrote, while another said, “Aye he gets the best papa award, this is so beautiful.”

Finally, on March 5, 2023, the film, called “Peppa Pig Adventure Movie,” made its premiere on YouTube. In the video, a smaller screen also showed David holding Lisette as they watched the final cut of the film together on a laptop. With some additional graphics, the film followed the pigs’ journey as they swam, joined a cooking class at a Mexican farm, went whale-watching, enjoyed a fancy meal by the seaside, sipped some margaritas, and even had a moment with a newlywed couple, whose wedding David and his family had attended. 

The epilogue featured a touching message from David to his beloved granddaughter. He said:

“You were in my heart the whole time we were gone. Thanks to your little toys, hopefully you enjoyed this video. This is a souvenir for you that you’ll be able to look back on, maybe long after I’m gone. It’s just a little sign of love that I have for you and your little brother.”

Lisette then turned around to give her granddaddy a kiss on the cheek in thanks as the beaming David smiled and returned the favor.

The film was a critical success and drew a well-deserved round of applause as Lisette exclaimed, “Yippee!” 

One comment on the video summed up David’s endearing enterprise perfectly:

“As someone who didn’t get enough time with their grandparents, this made me shed a tear. We never get enough time with amazing family like this, and this video is a perfect gift to watch now as a kid and look back on as an adult. His heart is golden!!”
