A grieving family is thankful for the kindness shown to them as an anonymous donor came forward to pay for the cost of their grandfather’s funeral service.

Ciera Woodard, a resident of Battle Creek, Michigan, recently lost her grandfather, Vietnam War veteran Gary Woodard. Gary died on October 18 from congestive heart failure. Speaking with reporters from Fox17, Ciera told of the suddenness of her grandfather’s death, saying that he had only had a cold for a few days before passing away.

Following Gary’s death, the Woodard family was faced with the daunting task of paying for their patriarch’s funeral. Since her grandmother, Louise, didn’t have much money, Ciera set up a GoFundMe page in the hope that the community would help her pay for the service. Ciera asked her family’s supporters to donate $1,700 to cover the funeral costs.

As the October 28 deadline drew closer, Ciera quickly began losing hope as only a few hundred dollars had been collected. Near the end of the line, Ciera prayed for any ray of hope in burying her grandfather.

It was on October 28 that the family’s prayers were answered. Early that morning, Ciera got a call from her grandmother, who informed her that she had just been contacted by the funeral home. The funeral director told Louise that an anonymous donor had come forward to give Gary the funeral deserving of a man who had served his country.

Ciera recalled how both she and Louise broke down during the call, grateful for the assistance from the mysterious individual.

Thanks to the anonymous donor, the Woodard family was able to bury their grandfather at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, a place of honor and distinction for all veterans.

As Ciera closed out her interview, she once again thanked the anonymous donor for the generosity shown to her family. Ciera told Fox17 that what the anonymous person did was good karma and that they are a blessing. Ciera also took time to praise her grandfather, saying that he would do anything to help anyone and would himself be grateful to the donor.

What do you think of how Ciera and her family were able to bury their grandfather after being given the anonymous donation? Have you ever contributed to a GoFundMe page?
