Prom is a special, but stressful event. You have to find the perfect dress, pick the right hairstyle and hope the right person asks you out. One girl in Alabama got the prom date of the century this year.

Lindsay Preston was born with Down Syndrome, a genetic disorder that can cause development delays. She hasn’t let that stop her. Lindsay attends Lawrence County High School in Alabama, where she has plenty of friends and enjoys her classes.

Still, her mom didn’t know who would take her lovely daughter to prom. Who could she trust with such a precious possession?

San Fransisco 49ers free safety grew up in Town Creek, Alabama. He played college football at Arkansas before heading west to play in the NFL. He stays close to his roots, though, making frequent trips back home to visit his family and friends in the area.

The Jones and Preston families have been close for years. Don’s mother is an elementary school teacher, and she was one of Lindsay’s students.

That’s why Kristi Martin, Lindsay’s mother, felt comfortable asking if the pro football player would accompany her date to the prom. He said yes. At the event, Don was a perfect gentleman. He and Lindsay danced for hours. He even danced with other students. The pair posted dozens of cute photos posing at the family home and on the dance floor. When the event was over, he brought her home safe and sound.

Not all news about pro athletes is negative. Any mom would be proud of her son for treating Lindsay with such respect. Know any great moms who raised a gentleman like Don?
