A Nashville fifth-grader is getting national attention after her mom posted a video of her vowing to come back "bigger and better" after receiving negative comments about her hair. Her triumphant response in the face of bullies is also earning her praise from some high profile supporters.

Promise Sawyer is in the fifth grade at Head Middle Magnet School in Nashville, Tennessee. When she went to school with her hair styled in an Afro, she received negative comments from several kids. Understandably, these comments upset Promise, and she shared this with her mom when she returned home from school.

After a pep talk from her mom, Qui Daugherty, reminding her not to let bullies take her joy and confidence, Promise was ready to return to school proudly wearing her Afro.

But before she left for school, she recorded a motivational video on her mother's phone to share the lessons she had learned from the incident.

After her mother posted the video on Facebook, it was shared so many times it went viral. This brought ten-year-old Promise's inspiring message to the attention of Kelly Clarkson, who invited Promise and her mom to appear on her talk show.

Promise, sporting a super cute braided hairstyle, shared her story with Kelly and the studio audience before finding out that one of Kelly's guests was also inspired by her story.

Both Promise and her mom were thrilled when Kelly brought out actress Tracee Ellis Ross from the hit TV show "Blackish." Promise got to go onstage and sit with Tracee, and she was clearly very moved by the experience.

Promise's story of resilience in the face of bullying is a reminder of the importance of having confidence in yourself no matter what others say. Be sure to pass this article along to someone who would enjoy this story!
