Giant Wolf Loves To Cuddle With His Closest Human Friend

Man and beast have long formed tight bonds with one another. However, it seems extra special when these bonds develop with wild animals who were never domesticated. There is just something amazing about the way humans and animals connect on a primal level.

This is what happens in this video from 2016. Danielle and a wolf, Kekoa, have become special friends during their time together at the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center near Divide, Colorado. Danielle works at the sanctuary that not only cares for wolves and wolf breeds but also has a variety of foxes.

You can see that Kekoa easily hides Danielle in the video with his hulking size. Wolves are, in fact, the largest animals in the canid, or dog, family. An average wolf can be over five feet long and two feet tall, and they can weigh over 100 pounds, according to Encyclopaedia Britannica. That is a whole lot of animal right there!

Most wolves are very cautious when it comes to being around humans. Some might even call them shy as they try to keep their distance from us. This is simply not the case with Danielle and Kekoa.

You can clearly see that Kekoa is not shy around Danielle at all. We're guessing these two have spent lots of time together at the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center. As other wolves howl in the background, Kekoa plants huge kisses all over Danielle's face.

We are loving all the wolf kisses, but also wondering where the wet-wipes are located for clean-up!

Through their species survival programs, the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center is striving to protect the Mexican Grey Wolf and Swift Fox species from becoming extinct. They help to rehabilitate these animals and release them back into their natural habitats. Swift Foxes were close to extinction due to lack of habitat, car collisions, and coyote predation. However, in recent years their numbers have stabilized. They prefer the grasslands of the Great Plains, and their presence is actually an indicator of a thriving grassland. 

The Mexican Grey Wolf is a smaller species than grey wolves. They were native to areas in the southwest United States. They came close to extinction due to hunting, trapping, and poisoning. Wait, poisoning? Wow, some humans... However, the Mexican Grey Wolf population is on the increase with the help of sanctuaries like these. They were also listed under the Endangered Species Act in 1976.

Wolves live in the remote wilderness in packs of 6-10, according to Encyclopaedia Britannica. These packs usually consist of a male, female, and their offspring. It is quite interesting how they live in a similar fashion as humans — in families.

Though most wolves live way out in the forest, some Red Wolves are known to prefer wetter areas like swamps and coastal regions. In general, gray wolves can adapt to a large range of climates in temperatures ranging from -70℉ to 120℉, according to Live Science.

Well, clearly in this video, they are in the lower range of that scale. You can see fluffy white snow falling on the ground as the wolf nuzzles Danielle's face. You can bet that bit of warmth was nice on a cold day.

The wolf walks up to Danielle gently and allows her to pet his belly and chest. You can tell he is absolutely loving the attention right now. He bows his head toward her as if to share an intimate secret. Watching the unspoken dialogue between the two is absolutely amazing.

Kekoa doesn't want to leave Danielle's side and nudges her now and then to remind her of his presence. We aren't sure how she could forget that adorable, yet massive beast cuddling up to her. Not only does the current weather situation give us the chills, but we're also getting them from the surreal moment. This wolf who has lived his entire life in the wild, and who will go back to the wild one day, is loving up on a human he has become fond of.

If that isn't a heartwarming kid's movie in the making, we don't know what it. We also can't help to get just a bit teary-eyed at the sweetness of this moment. Likewise, we can tell Danielle is quite enamored with her suitor. She pets him whenever he pushes into her, and she allows all those sloppy, wet wolf kisses with a smile.
