"Frightening" might be the first word that comes from someone's mouth upon seeing pictures of a Great White shark. If you take a step back and marvel at the creature, other words may come to mind. "Majestic" and "incredible" are two of them. And yes, the Great White does scare people for good reasons. Yet, people do look at them in amazement. The recent images of a Great White dubbed the "Queen of the Ocean" absolutely left some stunned.

The Queen is a massive shark and sports a length of 17 feet and an incredible weight of 3,500lbs, reports CBC News. Video footage may lead some to the obvious comparisons to the shark from Jaws, as this shark is not the mechanical Bruce of the 1975 classic. She's a true giant, one that ocean researchers were shocked to discover.

The OCEARCH research captured the shark near Nova Scotia, a Canadian region known for its massive tuna fish. The tuna population isn't alone in the giant fish category here.

Chris Fischer led the expedition. He pointed out the Great White must be quite old to reach such a length, and Fischer also called her a matriarch. Fischer also pointed out the shark show the telltale signs of injuries, including some scars. These wounds indicate an older shark, as well. The wounds likely come from battles with seals, animals that serve as a staple of a Great White's diet.

The "Queen" may live a somewhat stressful life, but she also maintains her existence in the ocean's chaos. That alone adds to her unique and mysterious story. The team will continue to learn more about her life. The researchers tagged her, and the tags allow for five years of tracking. Collected blood and tissue samples will also support additional research.

Of course, the "Queen of the Ocean," named Nukumi from a figure from the Mi'kmaq people's history, went back to her home in the sea. The research team released Nukumi unharmed. Hopefully, the science community will soon learn more from the Queen as she continues her travels and long life.

Is there someone you know who enjoys the ocean and learning about aquatic life? Maybe you know a person who is a fan of Jaws. Let that person learn about the "Queen of the Ocean." He/she may find the story incredibly interesting.
