Georgia Woman Pays For Man's Groceries When He Forgets Wallet And He Gives $10,000 To Cancer Institute In Her Name

Most of us have had it happen to us before. We go to take out our wallet to pay and realize that we've forgotten it. That happened to one man at an Aldi in Georgia in 2016. But instead of having to forgo his groceries, a kind stranger helped him out.

That kind stranger was Tracy Warshal, who offered to pay for him. Thinking nothing of her nice gesture, Tracy was surprised to find out that soon after the man repaid her good deed by donating $10,000 to The Piedmont Cancer Institute in her name.

Tracy Warshal was shopping at Aldi just before Christmas in 2016, when a gentleman at the checkout realized he had forgotten his wallet at home. Tracy immediately offered to pay the man's bill, which only amounted to $8 and included mostly fruit. The man was very thankful and asked Tracy for her name.

Not thinking anything further about her good deed, Tracy was very surprised to learn that the man had donated $10,000 to The Piedmont Healthcare Foundation –– a cancer care organization whose T-shirt Tracy was wearing at the time of the encounter –– in her name.

She also happens to work for the Piedmont Cancer Institute, so the donation was extra dear to her. The man had called the foundation knowing only her first name, and was able to track her down and make the generous donation under Tracy's name. 

Following the kind exchange, Tracy was so moved that she wrote a Facebook post about it. Her story was shared by many who were obviously very touched by the fact that two strangers could help each other out in such a way. 

What's more, the Aldi where the incident took place went on to match the man's kindndess, giving Tracy one year's worth of produce for free. This further act of generosity was featured on WSB-TV, where the exchange between all involved parties was shown to help and inspire people to give back.

In an interview with ABC News, Tracy discussed how the man eventually tracked her down and that he would like to remain anonymous. She stated: "I completely respect the fact that he would like to remain anonymous. Of course, I would like to give him a hug and say thank you." The back-to-back kind deeds serve to remind us that there are good samaritans in the world, and that often all it takes to spread kindness is to be the change that you wish to see.
