George Clooney Says Amal Is His 'Perfect Partner' & Is 'Glad' To Raise Children With Her

George Clooney is one of Hollywood’s biggest heartthrobs. But ever since he married lawyer Amal Clooney in 2014, showbiz’s most eligible bachelor has firmly been off the market. George is best known for his work as an actor and filmmaker, and is the recipient of several awards and honors. He gained widespread popularity with his role as Dr. Doug Ross on “ER” from 1994 to 1999, before going on to land several leading roles in films. In 2018, George was awarded with the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award.

While George has definitely made his mark on the entertainment industry for his work as an actor, director and producer, he has also made his mark for his charitable contributions. Time and again, the actor has gone out of his way to give back to others and to inspire people to do their part to help others.

George’s beauty isn’t just on the inside though; he is extremely popular for his handsome features and charming ways. The actor was married once during the start of his career but was single for a good portion of his time in the spotlight. However, that all changed when he met Amal.

The pair lived a busy life together as they both are very successful in their respective industries. Swapping a glamorous lifestyle for family-time, the couple became parents in June 2017 to a set of twins named Alexander and Ella, and are taking things a bit slower now. George and Amal have been married since 2014, and it’s clear that the couple absolutely adore one another. According to Town & Country, Amal is a lawyer at Britain’s Doughty Street Chambers and has worked on a number of human rights cases. She has also given several speeches at the United Nations.

“She is sort of this remarkable human being and now mother which is something, I suppose, you should assume she would be wonderful at as well,” George said. “But, when you see it in person, it makes you feel incredibly proud and also incredibly small.”

The star also talked about how much his life changed after meeting Amal. “I felt that I met someone who I would absolutely trade my life for, you know,” George said. “I met someone that her life meant more to me than my life and I never had that experience before.”

The pair share a home together in Lake Como in Italy, which is the same area that the couple actually met. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Amal was passing through on her way to Cannes in July 2013, when she and George first met. “I thought she was beautiful, and I thought she was funny and obviously smart,” George said. 

He explained how they began emailing and talking to each other about their lives and eventually realized that they were building a beautiful and strong connection. They went on their first date in October 2013 at the historic Abbey Road Studios in London. It wasn’t long before their relationship gained widespread media coverage, but George commended Amal for how well she handled the sudden attention.

George proposed in April 2014, and he and Amal tied the knot in September that same year. According to the Hollywood Reporter, they had about 100 family members and friends in attendance at their Venice wedding, as well as Rome’s former mayor Walter Zeltroni. 

George said:

“It changes you in every way that every person who’s fallen madly in love changes. Suddenly, the other person’s life becomes more important than your own. That’s not unique to us; that’s (unique to) all people who are lucky enough to find the perfect partner. I’m sorry I was 50-something when it happened, but only because I could have spent even more time with her.”

In 2017, the Hollywood Reporter noted just how stunning Amal looked, especially without evident makeup. “I’ve put on 10 pounds,” George remarked at the time. “She looks great.” The pair were adjusting to life as new parents – something that was unexpected for them. Amal was born on Feb. 3, 1978, and gave birth to her fraternal twins in June 2017, making her 39 years old at the time.

In a 2020 appearance on CBS Sunday Morning, George Clooney, 59, told correspondent Tracy Smith about the moment he found out he and Amal, 42, were having twins. He said:

"[The doctor said], 'You got a baby boy.' [I was like], 'Baby boy, fantastic!' Then they go, 'And you got another one there!' I was up for one! I'm like, 'I'm old.' All of a sudden it's two and I literally...it's hard to get me to not talk and I just stood there for like 10 minutes, just staring at this piece of paper going, 'What, two?!'"

After the initial shock subsided, he added that he's "so glad they have each other."

In 2018 when the kids were one year old, an eyewitness told Us Weekly about George being a doting dad and said,

"George teased that the babies are like models and he never has to show them how to pose because they do it so naturally. He seemed like the proudest parent and just couldn’t stop showing photos and talking about how much he loves the kids.”

The actor has also really shown how he stepped up to the role of being a father. He has showed his humorous side in various interviews before, but in a more serious moment, he told the Hollywood Reporter not long after becoming a father:

"The first thing you think is, 'I hope I don't screw this up.' I mean, look, we are all responsible for things in life, and Amal and I are responsible for each other in a way—we look out for one another and we care about one another. But you are really responsible for two kids. I want them to be happy. I want them to have a sense of humor. I want them to be interested in things. I want them to be compassionate about other people's plights. Because that's the thing, you know? You have to have some sort of empathy."

It is clear that both George and Amal are doting, loving parents. Even as recently as February 2022, George and Amal are proving that they are beautiful people inside and out, as they were honored with the Catalyst Award – their first joint award together – which recognizes individuals who use their platform to inspire social change, according to PEOPLE.
