George And Amal Clooney's Experience With Parenthood

Dec 02, 2020 by apost team

George and Amal Clooney are one of the most beautiful and graceful couples, not only in Hollywood but on the global stage. After falling in love and marrying in 2014, the couple became parents in June 2017 to a set of twins named Alexander and Ella.

Since then, their lives have been overtaken by their children, and they frequently talk about it. Here, we compiled some of the best quotes that the couple has made about parenthood.

Mixed thoughts

In a 2020 appearance on CBS Sunday Morning, George Clooney, 59, told correspondent Tracy Smith about the moment he found out he and Amal, 42, were having twins. He said:

"[The doctor said], 'You got a baby boy.' [I was like], 'Baby boy, fantastic!' Then they go, 'And you got another one there!' I was up for one! I'm like, 'I'm old.' All of a sudden it's two and I literally...it's hard to get me to not talk and I just stood there for like 10 minutes, just staring at this piece of paper going, 'What, two?!'"

After the initial shock subsided, he added that he's "so glad they have each other."

In 2018 when the kids were one year old, an eyewitness told Us Weekly about George Clooney being a doting dad. The source told the publication:

"George teased that the babies are like models and he never has to show them how to pose because they do it so naturally. He seemed like the proudest parent and just couldn’t stop showing photos and talking about how much he loves the kids.”

Always joking around

Never one to stray too far from his ways, it seems fatherhood hasn't tamed George Clooney's sense of humor. Speaking with Us Weekly the day after the twins' first birthday, he joked:

"Well, the kids got drunk. I don’t know what you guys were doing, but I came home, they had a bottle of booze. It was really embarrassing, but they’re feeling better today."

As much as he didn't expect to be a father, we didn't expect to hear the following words come out of George Clooney's mouth, but you never can tell:

"I'm a very good diaper guy, which I didn't know I would be."

Full responsibility

Joke's aside, Clooney has really shown how he stepped up to the role of being a father. In a more serious moment, he told the Hollywood Reporter not long after becoming a father:

"The first thing you think is, 'I hope I don't screw this up.' I mean, look, we are all responsible for things in life, and Amal and I are responsible for each other in a way—we look out for one another and we care about one another. But you are really responsible for two kids. I want them to be happy. I want them to have a sense of humor. I want them to be interested in things. I want them to be compassionate about other people's plights. Because that's the thing, you know? You have to have some sort of empathy."

Alexander the Thug

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, George Clooney (jokingly) gave some insight into his son Alexander's character:

"They start out with a personality right off the bat. [Alexander] is a thug already. You saw him," he said to pal Matt Damon. "He's a moose! Literally, he just sits and he eats."

Elegant Ella

While Alexander might be a little thug, Ella appears to be a proper little lady. George Clooney told ET in September 2017:

"She's very elegant, and all eyes. She looks like Amal, thank god."

What's in a name?

In the same interview with ET, Clooney dished on the inspiration—or rather, lack of—behind the twins' names, saying:

“We just didn't want to have really dumb names...We figured these kids are going to be looked at a lot and watched and [have their] every move sort of judged, and we wanted them to at least have a break with the names. So we looked for some sort of normal names. We didn't have any great inspiration. It wasn't Alexander the Great and Ella Fitzgerald."

First words

In an interview with Vogue in April 2018, Amal Clooney revealed the twins' first words. She said:

"We've had some 'Mamas' and 'Dadas.’ George was very careful to ensure that 'Mama' was the first word.”
