George & Amal Clooney Are Taking Shifts With Cindy Crawford & Rande Gerber After the Loss of Their Son Presley

When Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber lost their son, they did not face it alone. They did not have to.

Presley Gerber, the only son of Crawford and Gerber and the brother of Kaia Gerber, died at a Los Angeles rehab facility. He was 27. The family released a brief statement asking for privacy. In the days that followed, the people who love Crawford and Gerber most showed up — and kept showing up.

"George, Amal [Clooney] and a few of their other close friends have been taking shifts staying with the family so they aren't alone," a source told PEOPLE. "George and Amal joined the family in Los Angeles after learning of Presley's death. They're helping with arrangements and whatever else the family needs."

George Clooney and Rande Gerber have been close friends since the early 1990s, meeting when Gerber owned a bar in New York that Clooney frequented. Their friendship grew into a business partnership when the two co-founded the Casamigos tequila brand in 2013. For Crawford, a source described Clooney as "family." For Presley and Kaia, he was "Uncle George."

"George has always been very close with both Kaia and Presley," the source told PEOPLE. A separate source told Page Six that Clooney is "completely shattered by Presley's death."

The Clooneys arrived in Los Angeles and did not leave quickly. A group of close friends has been rotating through — making sure Crawford and Gerber are not left without company — while the family makes arrangements.

Kaia Gerber once said of her brother: "He's the one person I know who's always going to be there for me and always going to have my back."

Presley had been open about his struggles with mental health and addiction in the years before his death — speaking on a podcast, sharing resources, and documenting his journey in ways his sister described as an act of profound courage. "My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn't share anything," Kaia told an interviewer. "And now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, 'I'm gonna be very human for everyone.' There's only so much you can hide from the world."

He had been seeking help at the time of his death. His family has said nothing more about the circumstances. The investigation into the cause of death remains ongoing.

What has been said, and said clearly, is what he was to the people around him. Clooney, who knew Presley since childhood, offered encouragement and guidance during difficult stretches. "Presley was sweet and easy to be around," a source told Entertainment Now. "The world is a little less kind now that he's gone."

Crawford and Gerber have been together since 1998. They built a life, a family, and a friendship with George and Amal Clooney that has stretched across three decades. When the worst thing happened, their closest friends organized themselves around them in shifts — making sure someone was always there.

That, by itself, is its own kind of tribute. To Presley. To his parents. And to the friendships that hold people upright when they cannot hold themselves.
