Students Must Earn Their Books
The best part about this new vending machine is that students cannot simply put in a few coins or a dollar to get a book. The school must give the student golden coins to use as a currency to activate the machine.
There is no cost at all to buy any of these books. Save family money and get kids interested in reading once again. The machine is full of age-appropriate books that the school approves beforehand.
Students are allowed to take the books and bring them home, encouraging them to read books out of school hours.
Scholastic is known for their book fairs across the nation, and they made this school the first one to advertise this newest idea. Investing in this new idea was not an overnight process. Costing about $2,000 to get it up and an additional $1,000 to add in the books, Teacher's Desk is a non-profit organization that has agreed to keep the machine stocked.
Parette Walker is the Principal of this school, and he has explained that they are not trying to follow any strategy for this. They are doing this to get kids excited about reading again. They want every kid to get a book whether they have the money for it or not.
Kids only need to check out a book at the library, and in exchange, they get a coin to use at the vending machine to get their own book to own.
Gaining Praise Across The Net
A wide range of tweets from educators and parents across the nation are loving this idea and hoping they can find a way to implement this in their own school. Tweets are posted left and right about how so many are trying to get their own vending machine.
Authors are even chipping in to provide their books to the first school, so there is no doubt that this school is getting kids in the right place to continue learning more and gaining more knowledge.
Vending machines don't always have to be dangerous as long as what's inside is full of healthy food options or books for kids to read. This idea is sweeping the nation, but only for good measure. Everybody knows this strategy is going to get kids involved and show them that reading can be a great way to continue growing outside of school.
